Carson City unemployment rate in April drops to 10.1 percent

Nevada’s unemployment dropped to 9.6 percent in April, falling nearly 2 percentage points over the year. Carson City's unemployment rate fell to 10.1 percent and is now the only metro area in the state to have a double digit unemployment rate, according to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats Seek Western District Championship Repeat

There is no place like someone else’s home, at least for the Western Nevada College baseball team. Since March 23, the Wildcats have played 19 of 23 games on the road, compiling an 18-5 record.

That ability to focus and excel away from home will come in handy this weekend in Sterling, Colo., as the Wildcats pursue their second straight Western District Championship and a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

Greater Nevada at Habitat for Humanity Event

Carson City Pop Warner Youth Cheerleading will hold sign-up events Friday, Sunday and again on June 14 for the upcoming 2013 youth football and cheer season. The cheerleading program is open to girls ages 5-15 years.

The first sign-up event will be held Friday, May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.

A second sign-up will take place at the same location during the Boys and Girls Club Open House on Sunday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Governor to add $120 million to education budget

With less than 20 days left in this legislative session, Governor Brian Sandoval is announcing last-minute tweaks to his proposed budget.

Governor Sandoval said in an interview with Channel 2, based on economic projections for the next two years, he was able to add an extra $120 million to his education plan.
