It was the final points race of the season, a night that would see champions crowned in six racing divisions at Fernley 95A Speedway. Over 70 cars were on hand, and there were lots of spectators in the stands rooting for their favorite driver.

Fernley 95A Speedway will hold its season-ending event on September 29-30 with the Two-Day Shootout. Promoter Matt Ramthun expects between 150 and 200 cars to compete in six racing divisions over the two days of racing. Local racers will be joined by competitors from California, Utah, Washington, Oregon, and perhaps even farther away.

Getting expired or unused prescription drugs out of the bathroom medicine cabinet and into pill-dumping stations Saturday can keep them from being circulated in area high schools, Partnership Carson City Executive Director Kathy Bartosz said.
Those pills, ranging from narcotics to heart medicine for a teenager's parent or grandparent, can have a street value and be highly addictive.

With the final stretch approaching until the November 6 election, Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover reminds voters of some important pieces of information to remember. The last day to register to vote is 5 p.m. Oct. 6. Voters can registered at the Clerk-Recorders office, 885 E. Musser Street, Suite 1025.
Voters who visit the Carson City Clerk-Recorders Office in person with a photo ID and proof of residency have until Oct. 16. Statewide early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 2.

CARSON CITY – Statewide taxable sales totaled $3.55 billion in July, a 4.7 percent increase over July 2011 for the 25th consecutive month of increases, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Clark County taxable sales were up 5.4 percent, while Washoe County saw a 5.6 percent gain over July 2011.

Ten of Nevada’s seventeen counties recorded an increase in taxable sales for July 2012 compared to July 2011. Eureka, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, and White Pine counties recorded decreases.

Pyramid Lake, located about 30 miles north of Sparks, will open on Monday, Oct. 1, to fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout.
That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 1 to Sept. 30.

For 22 years Alana Ladd-Ross has been one of the most well-known faces with United Blood Services. On Wednesday she officially retired and was sent out in style with a party in her honor.
In between laughter and tears, employees and friends lined up one-by-one to pledge their appreciation and allegiance to Alana, the donor recruitment and community relations supervisor for United Blood Services of Carson City, whom many say was the driving force and life blood behind the operation.

A 71-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail on Sept. 24 on a warrant stemming from two charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Francis John Belongia, was arrested in the 4000 block of Stampede Drive without incident. Bail was set at $20,000.
In other felony-related arrests:
— A Dayton woman faces a felony charge of fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card without consent. Cynthia Marie Shelley, 31, was arrested Sept. 26. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street. She was arrested following a felony warrant issued by the Carson City Justice Court. Bail was set at $7,500.
