A Carson City Sheriff's deputy driving down North Carson Street Thursday afternoon spotted a driver texting while driving, a violation of the new law that went into effect Oct. 1.

According to the arrest report, the driver, Gilberto Paredes-Estrada, 27, of Carson City, was found to have a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. He also allegedly gave the deputy a false ID, a felony. He was arrested and put on Immigration Customs Enforcement hold.

The Washoe County RAVEN helicopter was brought in last night to help search the Northridge area for a suspect in a murder that took place in Reno over the weekend.

Law enforcement officers from Washoe and Carson City have been on the lookout for a suspect in the murder of 28-year-old Macario Ortiz of Carson City. Ortiz was shot and killed and three other wounded when a rival gang allegedly opened fire on the vehicle they were riding in as they tried to leave the Freight House District in Reno early Sunday morning.
