Southern California Edison has won a preliminary round in its legal battle to collect millions from Nevada for refunds paid on the sales and use tax assessed on coal, the Las Vegas Sun reports. If Edison wins, the state may face $145 million in refunds, leaving a bigger hole in the state's budget. Click here for the story.

According to a report from Jon Ralson, Jill Derby has decided not to run for the Nevada Congressional District 2 seat that was vacated by now-Sen. Dean Heller.
Derby ran for the seat twice against Heller, in 2006 and 2008. She and Nevada Treasurer Kate Marshall were to top two Democratic contenders for the seat. According to Ralson, Derby is throwing her support to Marshall.

CARSON CITY – On Assemblyman Harvey Munford’s desk lies his teacher’s edition of an American government textbook.
The former high school history and government teacher said he brought it as a guidebook to the legislative process. But he has not used it much.
“It wasn’t applicable to a whole lot of things,” he said.
Munford, a Democrat from Las Vegas, describes himself as “disillusioned” with the Legislature.

A California man, who led Carson City authorities on a chase and foot pursuit early Wednesday morning, and was later found hiding under a vehicle, faces multiple felony weapon, drug and property destruction charges.
Martin Earl Rushing, 40, of Los Banos, Calif., is being held in Carson City Jail with a bail amount of $100,000.

High winds continue to whip through Carson City this afternoon, with a gust reaching 53 mph recorded so far in the capital city, according to CarsonWeather.com.
A wind advisory continues through 11 tonight as southwest gusts of up to 70 mph are possible in wind prone areas and gusts between 35 to 55 mph for areas along Highway 395, Highway 50 and Interstate 80, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Sharron Angle, who previously said she was going to run for Nevada's 2nd District Congressional seat, decided today to skip the race.
Her exit was good news for establishment Republicans who worried her presence would split the vote and open the door for a Democrat to win this seat for the first time.
