CARSON CITY – About 5,500 unemployment insurance recipients who are collecting State Extended Benefits (SEB) will see an end to those benefits on July 7, the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) announced today.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will have a long and busy day on Thursday as they are scheduled to take on a very full agenda.

The biggest and possibly most contentious item will be the final approval of the Carson City Center aka Nugget Project ballot question. The Supervisors are expected to vote on the final wording of the question, as well as statements regarding the fiscal and environmental impacts. (See the wording attached below). This item is scheduled to be discussed during the afternoon session at approximately 2 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony allegations over the weekend:

  • Kenneth H. Barksdale, 50, a Carson City resident, at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Barksdale was arrested for domestic battery/strangulation of his ex-girlfriend, as well as the misdemeanor allegation of violation of court sentencing. Bail has been set at $10,500 plus administrative fees.

Carson City Airport opened its tarmac and hanger doors to the public on Saturday for its annual open house event, rolling out many rare and unusual aircraft for the public to enjoy.

From World War I replicas to the latest Blackhawk helicopter, you could see a good representation of military aircraft history on display. There were also demonstrations of radio-controlled airplanes doing spectacular stunts in the sky.

More than 2,000 hungry locals and visitors filled downtown Carson City Saturday night for the 19th annual Taste of Downtown, a culinary event over 20 blocks that featured 43 restaurants, seven bands and plenty of community bonding.
From tangy barbecue ribs to fresh made pizza and lasagna, authentic tacos, sushi rolls and decadent desserts, there was more than enough food and good times to go around for this Carson City culinary fundraiser that benefits Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Dr. George Baumgardner, curator of Natural History, will take visitors “behind the scenes” of Nevada’s plants, animals, specimens and other natural history collections on June 29 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 North Carson Street. What’s so special about these artifacts is that they are not normally on display and encourages visitors to become familiar with these rare collections. A sneak peak of the new Discovery Lab and other future developments of the natural history exhibit are also included during the tour.

On Wednesday night, Carson City Sheriff deputies arrested Saul Montez, 25, of Carson City, for felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor driving with suspended registration.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was stopped near the intersection of Edmonds and Gordon because the vehicle's registration was suspended.
