Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Elizabeth Santillanez, 18, a Carson City woman, at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening after she was transferred to the Carson City Detention Facility from the Douglas County Jail. Santillanez was arrested on a felony allegation of automotive burglary. Bail is set at $10,000.

Deputies also arrested several people for misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 20-year-old transient man was arrested for domestic battery, minor consumption, and possession of marijuana.

CARSON CITY – A new report questions the value of tax incentives and regulations approved by many states around the country, including Nevada, to create “green jobs,” noting that subsidies used for such programs can take away revenue for other needs such as public education.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies made several felony arrests from Monday evening through Wednesday morning:

  • Kameron Mariolo, 26, a Carson City resident, for use of another's identification, and a misdemeanor violation of alternative sentencing conditions. Mariolo allegedly used his older brother's information when officers requested his identification. Bail is set at $5,500.

If you're one of many thousands of big game hunters interested in drawing a 2012 hunting tag for Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, California Bighorn Sheep, Desert (Nelson) Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Elk and Rocky Mountain Goat in the State of Nevada, be advised that it is almost time to begin to submit your application(s) to hunt one or more of the big game species listed above.
The 2012 application period begins Monday, March 19 at 8 a.m.

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers and guest vocalist June Joplin for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry with a new twist. For "Potluck: A Smorgasbord of Poems and Big-Band Jazz," poets names will be drawn from a hat for each reading, followed by a big band tune.

The program features award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Tracy McQuay, Wayne Carlson, Lee Warner, Terri Breeden, and Joe Crowley.

Admission is $5 general at the door, and free for age 18 and under.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he will propose to extend a package of taxes now set to expire in June 2013 into the next budget to avoid further cuts to education, which he said cannot withstand further reductions.

To maintain a basically flat spending plan for the two-year budget that will begin on July 1, 2013, Sandoval said the modified business tax that was maintained at a higher rate for large businesses in the 2011 legislative session, along with a small increase in the sales tax, must be continued.

Dennis Johnson filed this afternoon as a candidate for Carson City Supervisor Ward 2, joining Brad Bonkowski and Maurice White in a battle to replace current Supervisor Shelly Aldean, who decided not to run after 10 years on the board. Liz Teixeira has also declared that she plans to run.

Johnson is one of the main forces behind the Nugget Project petition effort to put the question of whether to go forward with the City Center Project up for a public vote.

There are also two candidates who have filed so far for the three Carson City School Board seat up for election this year. Steve Reynolds has filed for reelection in District 5, and Joe Cacioppo, Jr. is running for the District 7 seat held now by Joanna Wilson, who is termed out. No one has declared yet for the District 2 seat currently held by James Lemaire.

Douglas County authorities seek the public's help in locating several suspects involved in an attempt to cash a stolen check on Saturday at a drive-thru window at Bank of America on Topsy Lane in north Douglas County near Carson City.
The primary suspect, an unidentified male adult, attempted to cash the stolen check at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday while using the drive-thru teller window, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.
