Carson City School Board meeting for June 26

The Carson City School District is holding a school board meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 P.M., located at Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William Street.

The Board of Trustees of Carson City School District and State of Nevada will discuss a Resolution to favor the Final Amended Budget for the Fiscal Year 2011-2012. This discussion will include topics such as revisions and certified enrollment, and audited fund balances. Updates on the phase one school bond projects, and functions and faculty features will also be discussed during the meeting.

State Lawmaker Says Action To Delay Tourism Contract Exceeds Legislative Authority

CARSON CITY – State lawmakers have put a new tourism contract to promote Nevada on hold despite the concerns of one lawmaker that the move exceeds legislative authority.

Concerns have been raised by Sen. Steven Horsford, D-Las Vegas, about the intent to award the two-year, $3.2 million contract to an out-of-state firm.

Dayton Chamber of Commerce mixer visits Love Ranch

In many ways, Thursday evening was an ordinary monthly mixer for the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, with members and guests partaking of food and drink, and employees of the host business talking about their contribution to the local economy.

But the host business on this occasion was the Love Ranch brothel, and the "employees" included several provocatively dressed working girls, and the business they were talking about was sex.

Nugget Project ballot question clears final hurdle

Carson City residents will get to vote on the future of the Carson City Center aka Nugget Project after the Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 to put the question on the ballot.

The question will ask voters to approve a 1/4 cent sales tax increase to fund the $28 million Knowledge and Discovery Center that has been the focus of the project for the last 4 years.

Lawmakers Criticize State Agencies For Seeking To Move Funds From Positions To Equipment

CARSON CITY – Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford said today he is disappointed that a number of state agencies are seeking to divert funds intended to fill vacant jobs to other purposes, including the purchase of vehicles, computers and furniture.

He accused them of “gaming the system” by seeking to shift their budget priorities one year after the Legislature adjourned and as the 2012 fiscal year comes to a close June 30.

Pyramid Lake cutthroat trout season closes on June 30

This is an annual reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30 miles north of Reno-Sparks, will close on Saturday, June 30 to fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout.
That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 01 to September 30.
On October 01, it will re-open for the 2012-2013 cutthroat fishing season.

New features in store for Fremont Elementary School

Fremont Elementary School grounds are currently under construction for a project to create a new and safer traffic pattern, making it easier for parents to drop off their children at school.

The new installations for the school consist of newly reconfigured parking areas to better cope with congestion on nearby roads. A pick-up area specifically designed for the kindergartners is also being installed on the east side of the school.
