CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he needs a lot of questions answered before he can decide whether to expand Medicaid eligibility in Nevada, and that it could take several months to resolve all the uncertainties.

“There’s no specific time schedule,” he said. “I mean I understand right now we’ve had the Supreme Court decision. Everyone has been waiting for that. I think there are still people that are trying to interpret it.

CARSON CITY – The state Board of Examiners today approved a $3 million contract with an out-of-state firm to spearhead tourism efforts in Nevada after being told the selection process was thorough and fair.

The board, with members Gov. Brian Sandoval and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto voting, approved the two-year contract with the California-based offices of Burson-Marsteller.

This weekend some of the area’s most talented senior citizens will be on stage at the Carson City Community Center in the annual Senior Follies production of “Those Delightful Decades.” This annual production is a fundraiser for the Senior Meals Programs offered through the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.

This year's A Concert Under the Stars, a fund-raiser for The Greenhouse Project has exceeded all expectations, according to Karen Abowd, project president.
"Preliminary numbers look like we raised between $32,000 and $34,000," Abowd said.
The goal had been to clear between $20 and $25,000.
The sold-out event hosted by Cafe at Adele's Wednesday,was headlined by PabloCruise and featured opening music by Jaime Kyle and The Mighty Surf Lords. Chili Bop Entertainment, co-owned by John Procaccini, long-time Carson City resident, was the event's promoter.

Carson City Sheriff's Deputies have arrested Anthony Paul Luca, 32, for failure to register as an ex-felon and possession of a controlled substance.

Officers also arrested the following individuals for misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 19-year-old Carson City man for a trespassing warrant in his name and a contempt of court warrant in his name.
  • A 36-year-old transient man for disorderly conduct and probation violation.
  • A 27-year-old Dayton man for failure to register as an ex-felon and a failure to appear traffic warrant in his name.

Carson Valley area casinos reported a drop in monthly gaming "win" for May, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board on Thursday. Casinos in Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden and others in Douglas County except Lake Tahoe report a 9.98 percent decrease compared to May 2011. Casinos in May took in $8,248, 755. In May 2011 the "win" was $9,162,840.

The Brewery Arts Center and Wild Horse Productions have announced a partnership that will welcome Wild Horse Productions as a resident company at the Brewery Arts Center.

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Stefen Davis, 19, a Carson City man, at 7 a.m. this morning. Davis was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs with substantial bodily harm, as well as misdemeanor allegations of possession of marijuana, minor consumption of alcohol, and due care. He is alleged to have struck a pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital with a severe neck injury. Bail has been set at $25,150 plus administrative fees.
