The Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Carson City will give busy caregivers a break this holiday season by offering free respite care for their elderly loved ones.

It’s often difficult for caregivers to find time for themselves and that challenge is compounded during the busy holiday season. Because of that, Lodge employees will offer the free respite help on December 12th and 19th from 11am to 3pm.

Following a weekend of torrential rains, the weather is expected to be clear for Friday night's annual tree lighting ceremony.
The Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights has expanded to a two-day celebration, begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday on the Capitol grounds where the state trees will be lit.

Nearly 1.3 million Nevadans are registered as active voters at the end of November 2012, according to the Nevada Secretary of State's office.

The increase in active voter registration totals since the close of registration for the Nov. 6 general election is due in large part to the number of inactive voters who cast ballots and automatically became active voters according to federal and state law.

The annual three day Capital Classic High School Basketball Invitational, sponsored by Carson City Host Lions, will be on Thursday December 6th and Friday 7th with doors opening at 4:00 PM. Thursday's lineup is 4;30 PM Reed vs Sparks 6:00 PM Wooster vs Incline Village, and 7;30 PM Carson vs Damonte Ranch. Friday's lineup is 4:30 PM Sparks vs Damonte Ranch 6:00 PM Incline Village vs Hug 7:30 PM Carson vs Reed. Saturday the 8th, doors open at 11:30 AM, play starts at 11:45 AM with Carson vs Incline Village 1:15 PM Damonte Ranch vs Reed 2:30 PM Carson vs Sparks.

Teams of school children from Carson City with a knack for building and design will join students throughout Northern Nevada in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) challenge, Saturday, Dec. 8 at Sparks High School.

FIRST is founded by inventor Dean Kamen as a way to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. The competition brings its biggest-ever annual FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) season to Northern Nevada with the 2012 “Senior Solutions℠” Challenge.

Food for Thought in Carson City will hold its fifth Ladies' Night Out: An evening of Food, Wine and Shopping on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m.
This night is designed for ladies wanting to take in a unique Christmas and holiday shopping experience, while at the same time helping feed local children in the community.

Two people were injured after a two-vehicle crash that shut down Highway 50 at Dump Hill outside Carson City. The drivers of both vehicles were sent to Carson Tahoe Hospital. The extent of injuries is unknown. The accident had shut down east and westbound lanes of traffic. Traffic is now moving in the eastbound lane.

This sweet old lady has been wandering on Highway 50 east and Arrowhead and Deer Run Road areas in Carson City since the the first week of November.

If you stopped to help her, she would bolt across all 4 lanes of traffic. It is a miracle she was not hit. Thanks to the efforts of many people, she was finally caught in a live trap.
