The Carson City Sheriff's Office has seized a vehicle that matches the description involved in a hit and run that caused property damage to the patio area of Firkin and Fox early Sunday morning.
Video surveillance shows the older model pickup crashing into the iron fence in front of Firkin at 3:02 a.m., smashing through the fixtures and potted plants before speeding away.

Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei offered a successful amendment on Tuesday to the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill for next year, which would shift $44 million for mandatory overtime to the VA Regional Offices with the worst disability claims backlogs — greater than 365 days.
Of the 15 VAROs on the list, Reno’s backlog, with an average claims process of 504 days, is the second worst in the nation behind Los Angeles (576 days). The amendment passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 248 to 172.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold monthly “Breakfast with Brad” meetings with local residents on the first Friday of each month at the Cracker Box restaurant. The first breakfast will be this Friday, June 7, 7:30 a.m.
Any Carson City resident is invited to sit down with Bonkowski and enjoy a cup of coffee and talk about the issues they feel are most important. Bonkowski says it’s important for him to hear directly from his constituents.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Legislature reconvened for a brief a special session on Tuesday morning to finish up work on several bills that were not passed in time to meet Monday’s midnight deadline for the end of the 77
th regular session.
Gov. Brian Sandoval ordered the 27th Special Session during the predawn hours of Tuesday. Legislators worked through the morning to pass five measures, including one that will allow the Board of County Commissioners in Clark County to raise the Sales and Use Tax in order to fund the hiring of additional police officers.

Two 18-year-old Carson City men were arrested Monday and face misdemeanor reckless driving charges for drag racing through the east side of town.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies patrolling the area at around 11 p.m. found the pair racing side-by-side, accelerating quickly to a speed of 65 mph in the posted 35 mph zone. One driver was in a White 1994 Honda and the other in a silver 1987 Mazda.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed his second bill this session on Tuesday, which will allow voters in Henderson, Reno, Carson City and Sparks to continue electing public officials via citywide elections.
If signed, SB457 — named the “Ward Voting” bill — would’ve allowed residents to vote only for candidates representing ward the voter lives in.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Senate members became emotional Monday evening as they honored those who would not return for another session.
Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, who serves as Senate president, faces a term limit that does not allow him to serve again in the Senate. That makes the last day of the session his last day in the Legislature.
The senators took time out of the floor session to honor their colleague saying that they were proud to have served with him, and even giving him a coffee machine as a parting gift.

The event will include shredding and recycling services by American Document Destruction and Offsite, child safety information and K-9 Unit appearance from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

CARSON CITY — Controversial gun bill Senate Bill 221 passed 23-19 in the Assembly on Monday, with four Democrats voting against the measure.
However, the bill is expected to be vetoed by Brian Sandoval in the next 10 days.
The bill requires background checks on the private sales of guns and requires courts to report mental health issues, which would be used as part of the background check.
