Local seniors are invited to a free barbeque-style lunch on Thursday, July 25 at The Lodge Assisted Living Community in Carson City. Seniors can enjoy a chuck wagon lunch, rodeo games, an old fashioned watering hole as well as prizes from 2 to 4 p.m.

The party takes place in the Lodge Dining Hall and Ballroom. The Lodge hosts monthly Senior Mingles as a way to help local seniors stay active and make new friends. Reservations are appreciated and can be made by calling 775-583-8192.

UPDATE 8:40PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed that the driver involved in Thursday evening's accident involving a child on Pheasant Drive appears to be accidental and no charges will be filed at this time.

The driver "was driving along the roadway when the child walked in the way of the vehicle," said Sheriff Furlong.

The drought experienced this spring and summer has prompted the U.S. Small Business Administration to offer low-interest federal disaster loans to small, non-farm businesses in Carson City, Lyon County as well as Storey and Washoe counties.

These loans that must be applied for would offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the drought experienced from May 20 to July 14, 2013, said Alfred E. Judd, director of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center ‑ West.

The Carson City Sheriffs Office held a DUI compliance checkpoint at Fairview Drive and Desatoya Street on Sunday, July 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Of the 727 vehicles that went through the checkpoint, three were impounded, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Deputies issued 20 citations for various offenses, made one warrant arrest, one DUI arrest, and one arrest for driving with a revoked / suspended license.

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Thursday in the area of Highway 395 and Topsy Lane in Carson City and will be flown via Care Flight. The accident was reported in the northbound lane shortly after 5 p.m.

The victim was reported to be a female and was said to have an injury to her leg. It is unknown the extent or nature of the injuries. She was reported by first responders on the scene as being conscious.

Carson City Fire Department, Douglas County rescue, East Fork Fire and Rescue and Carson City sheriff's office deputies responded.

One person died Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 395 south of Gardnerville, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident, reported at 9:50 a.m. south of Riverview, involved a Ford Taurus wagon traveling northbound on Highway 395 that was preparing to make a left turn onto a private drive, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

All seven Nevada State museums will offer free admission Saturday, July 20, to celebrate newly expanded schedules. Train rides at the railroad museum in Carson City and Boulder City will be half price.
