Carson City police officers made several arrests on Thursday, including that of Stuart Nichols, 43, an unemployed Carson City man. Nichols was arrested around 4:30 a.m. near Empire Ranch Road and Short Putt Drive.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a plan to allow the Jump Around Carson bus service to place advertising on its bus shelters to earn extra revenue. The plan comes with some restrictions, such as limiting the size of ads and not allowing them in historic districts.

A judge has agreed to clarify who can use the term "re-elect" in campaign materials under rules setting new voting boundaries in Nevada.

The issue centers on which legislators get to claim they are the district's incumbent when boundaries get redrawn and force two sitting candidates to run against each other in the same district. The language was sought by Legislative Counsel Brenda Erdoes.

The Office of the Nevada Attorney General announced today that Tracy Lawrence, 43, a local notary, has pled guilty to one count of notarizing the signature of an individual not in her presence, a gross misdemeanor in violation of NRS 240.155.

Notary fraud carries a potential jail sentence of one year and/or a fine of up to $2,000.

A portion of the Carson City Historic District, designated the “West Side District,” was recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The area was selected for inclusion in the National Register in recognition of its importance to the history of Carson City and the state of Nevada. The Carson City Historic District has been established in Carson City since 1982.
