With the recent appointment of Gerald Gardner to Chief of Staff for the Governor’s Office, Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo will be appointing Mark Krueger to fill the Assistant District Attorney position vacated by Gardner, according to a news release. Krueger will officially begin his new role as Carson City’s second in charge of the District Attorney’s Office on Sept. 24.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced Thursday that she and 36 other AGs reached a record $181 million settlement, the largest multi-state consumer protection settlement of its kind reached with a pharmaceutical company, with Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. Nevada’s share of the settlement will be $3.3 million.

Unlimited train rides for the single-ride price are designed on Labor Day weekend to entice railroad and history buffs to the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
Rides will involve the 1905 Steam Locomotive No. 25 and will highlight the holiday weekend celebration at the museum.

This is the first in a three-part series of articles about my second, fly-in, trout fishing trip to Mitchell Lake, which is located in the Cariboo Mountains Provincial Park in British Columbia.
This three-part series will consist of:
Series No. 1: The flight from Dayton, Nevada to Mitchell Lake, B.C.,
Series No. 2: The people, accommodations and meals at the lake,
Series No. 3: The trout fishing.

How the trip originated:
It began about three weeks ago, when my first-cousin’s husband (Bob Scholes of Dayton) asked if I was interested in returning to Mitchell Lake.

A bomb threat reported Wednesday afternoon at Kohl's department store in Carson City prompted an evacuation. Nothing was found after an intense search of the store, authorities reported Wednesday night.
The threat was phoned in by a man said to be angry and speaking with a raspy voice, according to a 911 dispatch report.

CARSON CITY – Nevada recorded two straight years of increases in taxable sales through June, with a statewide gain of 7.9 percent over June 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Taxable sales totaled $3.9 billion in June compared to $3.6 billion in June 2011. For the 2012 fiscal year, taxable sales rose 7.6 percent over 2011.

Clark County taxable sales were up 8.9 percent in June and Washoe County saw a 3 percent gain.

CARSON CITY – A state panel was told today that for yet another two-year state budget, there will be virtually no money available from property tax revenues for capital construction projects.

The state Public Works Board heard the disappointing news today as it began a two-day review of projects being sought by state agencies ranging from the Department of Corrections to Tourism and Cultural Affairs.

As the new fall term begins, the college welcomes several academic faculty members who have joined WNC in 2012 to fill crucial vacancies. Dr. Robert Whitcomb is the most recent, arriving in time to teach business courses this fall. He hails from Haines, Alaska, where he retired as director of Human Resources and Organizational Development for the Chilkoot Indian Association, a Native Sovereign Nation there.

This is a reminder that a special trout fishing season will open on the Friday before Labor Day.
August 31, 2012 is the Opening Day of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fishing season at Heenan Lake in nearby Alpine County, Calif.
Each year, that season opens the Friday before Labor Day and closes the last Sunday in October (October 28 this year). If you’re interested and if you would like to enjoy a totally different fishing experience, plan to spend August 31 at that easy-to-get-to location.
