By way of background, the “Quilici Cabin” is located in a rural area of Plumas County at an elevation of exactly 6,000 feet on a steep hillside between Portola and Davis Lake in Northern California; and it is jointly owned by Jim, Kathi, Don and Elaine Quilici, all of Carson City.

That two-story cabin was built back in 2003, and from our deck, you have a spectacular, world-class view of the surrounding groves of pine trees and quaking aspen trees plus the nearby and the faraway mountains.

Stroll around downtown Carson City and enjoy wine tasting with a commemorative wine glass and hors d'oeuvres for $10. Visit the art galleries, gift shops, casinos and restaurants. Purchase your glass at the Nugget, Cactus Jacks, Horseshoe Club or Bella Fiore. Turn in your map at the Carson Nugget at 5pm for prizes. The walk is from 1 - 5pm and takes place the 1st Saturday of every month.

A 23-year-old Dana Point, Calif. woman was arrested Halloween night in Carson City and faces misdemeanor charges of hit and run, reckless driving, marijuana possession and driving under the influence after she allegedly hit a pickup and took off at a high rate of speed through a residential area.

All cultures celebrate the dead as well as mourn them. And the first of November usually marks the Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de los Muertos. In Carson City there will be a multicultural celebration Saturday, November 10, to honor loved ones who have passed away with stories, crafts, songs and exhibits, colorful folklore dancers. The Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum.

In the 74 years since the Nevada Day Parade moved to Carson City, the number of Nevada Day events has multiplied to include contests, parties, carnivals, exhibits and food events. At the same time, the region from which participants come to celebrate in the capital city has diminished.
“It used to be a statewide event,” said Guy Rocha, retired state archivist who continues to stay involved with Nevada history and events. “Now, Nevada Day in Nevada is celebrated principally in Western Nevada.”

The name of the motorcycle rider killed in a head-on crash in Carson City on Tuesday has been identified. Vincent Wayne Gilpatrick, 33, of Carson City, died from injuries in the crash, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. A juvenile driving a Jeep Cherokee was taken to the hospital. Gilpatrick was a former corrections guard. His family is from the Ely area.

Carson City Soroptimist will host an Intro to Soroptimist Social Thursday, Nov. 8. Local business women, those recently retired from a profession, and those just embarking on a career are invited. This is an opportunity to meet members of the local club, learn about their projects, events, and scholarships, and experience their camaraderie in a fun and relaxed setting.
