Why would someone write an article on buying versus renting a home? What’s in it for the author of the article?
Why would you read one?

What is it you want to hear? Do you just want confirmation and justification for what you already believe and want to do? Or, are you looking to be convinced otherwise?

These are all good questions to ask yourself if you find yourself reading an article on whether it makes more sense to buy a home, or rent a house.

There are “reasons” to buy, and “reasons” to rent.

The median sales price for Carson City, NV homes for sale was $292,000 in July 2018 compared to $315,000 during June 2018 and $259,950 in July of 2017.

The number of Carson City, NV homes that sold was 57 in July 2018 vs. 80 in June 2018 and 72 that sold July of 2017.

One of the main reasons people aren’t buying homes is they think they can’t afford it—especially the down payment. But, as it turns out, there are plenty of buyers out there who actually can afford to purchase a home, but their misconceptions about affordability are holding them back from making a move.

According to a recent survey from lender Laurel Road, 53% of Americans are concerned about their ability to afford a home. But a lot of that concern is because they don’t know what their options are.

The housing inventory crisis—which, according to Realtor.com’s recent Housing Shortage Report, is the worst inventory shortage in the United States in over two decades—hasn’t been an easy time for people on the market for a new home. The low inventory and the intense competition for available homes has driven up prices in markets across the country, making it difficult for potential buyers to find and buy property.

Has your air conditioner ever failed on a hot summer day? It’s a struggle no homeowner wants to deal with. When you own a home it’s important to budget annually for repairs that might be needed and anticipate when things might need to be replaced. If you take care of your home, your appliances and fixtures should last longer. This means keeping them clean, performing regular maintenance and preventing unnecessary wear. Even the most well-kept homes will need repairs at some point and it helps to know how long you should expect your items to last.

Are you aware that June is National Homeownership month?

Probably not. Because you’re too busy working to afford the home you live in, whether you rent it or own it.

Why should you care?
If you poke around and read anything you can find about it, you’re being urged to recognize and celebrate the benefits of homeownership.

That seems kind of a weird thing to ask you to do. Do you really have the time or care? What’re you supposed to do, throw a party? Sit alone and contemplate it? Invite some friends out for coffee and chat about it?

Following the financial crisis of 2008, the Obama administration passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act which, in an effort to clean up the mortgage industry, imposed stricter regulations around lending. The legislation completely changed the mortgage industry and made it much more challenging to secure a loan.

There’s no denying that it’s tough out there for buyers. The inventory shortage has created a market that’s more competitive than normal. As a potential buyer, you might be thinking “I should probably wait until next year to make a move.”

But if you want to get the best deal on a home, you should probably rethink that idea.

According to the most recent US Home Price Insights from CoreLogic, home prices are expected to rise 5.7% year-over-year—meaning a house you might be considering buying today will be 5.7% more expensive if you wait until this time next year to make a purchase.

Home renovations are a great way to make your home more livable. But if you’re thinking about selling your home anytime in the future, you want to know you’re going to be able to get back at least some of your investment when you put your house on the market. But which renovations are going to give you the most bang for your buck?

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. (June 2, 2015) – Chase International was rated the leading real estate company in the Reno-Tahoe area by REAL Trends, the industry’s premier organization for tracking real estate stats across the nation.

The report, which tracked all transactions through 2014, concluded that the Lake Tahoe-based agency had $939,547,242 in residential sales volume last year, making it the top producing agency in the region, and number 183 in the nation overall. The figure was an increase from 2013, which saw a volume of $865,000,000.
