Nevada State Museum hosts Family Weekend
Submitted by Molly Moser on Wed, 07/11/2012 - 10:33pmSpend a Saturday with the family and discover Nevada reptiles at the Nevada State Museum, in a hands-on nature program for kids of the ages 6 – 11. Of course, the parents have their own scientific duty as well; as the kids take on experiments with nature, parents will use microscopes and specimens in a lab setting. Activities will also include creating and painting a lizard or a snake model.
Adult admission is $8, free for museum members and children 17 and under. This event will take place on Saturday, July 14, from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson.
Build a Fairy Garden at Greenhouse Garden Center

This workshop will give guests a tutorial on building their very own Fairy Garden, in only a small patch of space of a container. This creation will be a great accessory to herb gardens or along side a row of plants, and is perfect for all ages.
The cost to attend the workshop is $6. Guests are welcome to bring their own containers or purchase one at the Greenhouse Garden Center, along with Fairy Garden accessories. Refreshments will be provided.
Brewery Arts Center welcomes Wild Horse Productions

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.
Art project 'Visualizing Change' at Lake Tahoe's Sierra Nevada College through July 27
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 07/11/2012 - 6:22pmThe Lake Tahoe Science Consortium collaborated with University of Nevada, Reno’s Department of Art to create “Visualizing Change,” a photographic art expedition intended to convey concepts in environmental restoration at Lake Tahoe to the scientific community and general public. The exhibit is located in the Prim Desert Research Library at Sierra Nevada College at Lake Tahoe’s Incline Village. It features photography and oil painting contributions from eight noted artists and is free and open to the public through July 27.

Museum research associate Mary Covington will talk at 6:00 pm about the history and significance of gifts sent from France to the United States aboard the 1949 Merci Train.
The exhibit includes 21 travel posters of French regions along with a wedding dress from Lyon, trench art, and personal treasures sent in gratitude to the U.S. for support following World War II.

Community Meeting in Support of Wild Horse Children's Theater
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 07/07/2012 - 9:39pmOn July 4, 2012, after 6 years as resident theater company at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, Wild Horse Children's Theater was evicted from the museum via an email letter with no discussions or negotiations of the eviction. WHCT was asked to remove all theater items out in 30 days without an exploration of how the museum and WHCT might work together to unwind from this 6 year relationship by offering storage space until something else was secured and/or letting WHCT continue at least until the end of the year with the programming that was scheduled at the museum.

Pablo Cruise headlines A Concert Under the Stars Wednesday

Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
“My folks had an old pump organ and I couldn’t reach the pedals,” Jenkins said. “I’d play and my sister would pump the pedals for me; I always had an ear and a love for music.”

Carson Street is closed between Robinson and Musser for the car and motorcycle show. The event features classic cars, food, drinks music and fun.
Part of the event includes the Carson City Sheriff's Office 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in front of the Carson Nugget. Watch as motorcycle patrol personnel from around the state work their big bikes through an obstacle course.
The event goes on all day until 7 p.m.
Mighty Surf Lords to open 'Concert Under The Stars'

The event takes place July 11 at Café at Adele’s and begins with the silent auction at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. with happy, fun-filled music by The Mighty Surf Lords, who also played the venue last year and who open this year for Jaime Kyle and Pablo Cruise.
