Obituary: Celebration of Life service Saturday, June 30 for Linda Javitch Furbee
Linda Javitch Furbee was born on December 2, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to her parents, Pauline and Harry Javitch. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Nicholas, and about a million friends, and colleagues, including the many people she helped on their journeys in her various roles in the community. She died of issues related to metastatic breast cancer on June 21, at 3:07 a.m. the exact minute the Summer Solstice began.
Her parents divorced about 4 years after her birth. Linda was lovingly raised by her mother, Polly. She visited her father on holidays and for longer periods in the summer. She grew up in and around the LA area learning to surf, ride motorcycles, and working in the usual post high school jobs as she began to realize LA wasn’t the city for her. She moved from there to Douglas County in the late 1970s and worked for several years in the gaming industry between South Lake Tahoe, and Carson City areas.
She made a number of life long friends, including Michael Furbee, Alice Miller, Lance and Mary Wollery - Crowley, Valeri Wood and others during this time. Linda and Michael lived together for about 14 years, half of it as a married couple. They parted amicably in the early 1990s and remained so today. She completed her undergraduate studies at UNR in special education and began teaching special education at Carson Valley Middle schools for two years. She completed a graduate program in educational counseling and worked as a school counselor at Douglas High School for 10 years.
Linda expanded her graduate studies in the later 1990s and began a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She completed her clinical internship at both Douglas County Rural Mental Health Clinics and Douglas County High School. She transitioned from high school counseling to full time private practice in 1999. She has been in private practice in Carson City at Carson Professional Group since this time. Where she was helping many individuals, couples, and families heal trauma, realize potential, and live more fulfilled, satisfied lives.
Her definition of GOD was the Great Out Doors. She enjoyed most any outdoor activity including, hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, and more. She loved to travel, especially to Mexico. She enjoyed a vacation home in Todos Santos in Baja California Sur for many years with Lance and Mary. Her friends and mentors Hal and Vicky Butler also live there and this made for a wonderful context when visiting.
She and Stephen began their relationship in November of 2007 and were married in August of 2013. They shared many common interests in their work, travel, and mostly creating and enjoying their wonderful relationship.
She is sorely missed by many.
