Catson City's Catmandu introduces their Cat of the Week: Autumn

Good things come in small packages and Autumn, our cat of the week, proves it.
She is a small, medium/long haired black kitten a little over 6 months old. She is a bundle of fun, love and energy. Autumn is very outgoing and makes friends quickly and easily with both cats and people. She has a bold and outgoing personality.

Carson library director to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

Speaking at the February 5th Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Library Director Joy Holt, who will provide an update on all of the library's many goings-on, as well as a run-down on some newly-acquired best sellers of special interest.

Joy's resume includes experience as a library aide, library assistant, academic student reference librarian, assistant library director, digital services librarian, assistant to the state librarian and deputy library director.

Movie Night at the Historical Society of Dayton Valley Feb. 15: 'A Howling in the Woods,' filmed in Dayton

On Saturdays at 9 p.m. KNVC Carson City community radio 95.1 will feature Angela Wheeler’s new show, “What Have You.” Angela, aka “Kitschy Mama,” runs an eclectic, punk-focused show. The music features a range of unique 60’s obscura — high energy rock, blues, jazz, samba, old advertisements, and TV moments.

Miller Counseling is partnering with Douglas Center for Hope and Healing to offer grief support groups to Carson City and the surrounding rural communities Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Miller Counseling and Wellness Center is located at 104 W. Telegraph St. in Carson City.

The Center for Hope and Healing has been providing grief support to Douglas County for the last 10 years. The goal of building this partnership is to make the free support groups available and easier to access to more members of the Northern Nevada community.

Senior Spotlight: Carson High’s Todd Gosselin

Carson High School would like to celebrate Todd Gosselin. Todd enjoys being part of all things Carson High. He is an outstanding student, with a 4.9 GPA, a Blue crew commissioner and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter and State Officer, a student-athlete and works in the community teaching young children to swim.

Nevada Humane Society Carson City’s Pet of the Week: Laffy Taffy

Nevada Humane Society's pet of the week is Laffy Taffy. This 1-year-old boy was recently transferred to our Carson City campus. He came in as a stray at our Reno campus in October of 2023. Laffy Taffy is a very sweet, energetic boy who can’t wait for his fur-ever home.

Meet Piglet, a big, handsome neutered guy who is up-to-date on all his shots. He is short-haired, basically a tabby with lots of beautiful white fur on his chest, legs and face, and big green eyes.

Piglet is a very good-looking fella with good inside manners. He is an indoor only cat.

This week the spotlight shines on senior Madeline Roberts. Maddie is an outstanding student, a dedicated athlete and just an awesome young woman. Maddie’s academic accomplishments are a testament to her commitment and drive. She will earn her AP Capstone Diploma, which demands rigorous coursework and the ability to think critically.

Muscle Powered featured at Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Inversin, a member of the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee since 2011. She has been a Muscle Powered board member since 2007, and in the years since has served as the group's president, secretary, treasurer, walk leader and trash mob organizer. The Muscle Powered organization works toward a community where walking and biking, for transportation or recreation, is a way of life. They promote creation of pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly infrastructure by developing and maintaining trails and resources.
