Comment on Editorial: Why spend $50 million on the “last library?” by Barbara Mathews
I have been a Library Director for 23 years in Churchill County. Like Sara Jones, I, too, have been planning a new library for Fallon.
Is a library obsolete? I have been hearing this old refrain since the 1980’s, Mr. Morgan. Your arguments are not new. Libraries are usually the first to embrace cutting-edge technology, the first to step up to the plate to offer those changes to their communities, the first to take those chances. And when was the last time you were in a library? They are not quiet..they are alive with life! People talking, children laughing, the staff engaging in conversation with their customers, and the list goes on.
Carson City should be proud they want to invest in their future. According to Nevada Man’s comment, it will cost $26 for the average taxpayer in Carson City for the new library. Please make sure you use that new facility and get your money’s worth, Mr. Morgan, instead of trying to find your information on the internet.
