Hello fellow anglers and Merry Fishmas. I think we are all looking forward to the new year to begin. Jan. 1, 2021 will be a welcome sight, so we may begin a new year. At 6:32 a.m., Topaz Lake will officially open for the 2021 fishing season.

Pastor Tim Plummer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Missionary Area Director, has once again brought Christmas trees to Carson City to support FCA. Christmas is fast approaching, and most agree it is the best time of the year. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but it does not have to be this way.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

The results are in. Students laughed at them because they had to dress differently, today, but they laughed at the students, too, because they were all dressed the same.

Happy Last Day of School! The conclusion of this school year has not been what any of us expected, so let's take a moment to reflect on all of our experiences.

For 22 years, the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial hosted a ceremony to bear witness to the unification of statewide law enforcement agencies and honor Nevada’s officers killed in the line of duty.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

Two people were arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries in the Dayton area during the past month with a break in the case discovered early this week when one of the suspects accidentally shot himself with a gun he allegedly stole, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Over the past month the Lyon County Sheriff's Office has been investigating approximately 18 Dayton residential burglaries in the Riverboat Road, River Park, and Sutro neighborhoods.

Are you ready to enjoy yourself? The weekends aren't the only time for fun in Carson City and today’s line up proves that. Have some laughs for a good cause at the Brewery Arts Center with Comedienne Kat Simmons and help raise funds for Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP.) They are the ones that sponsor the numerous carnivals at Mills Park throughout the year, in addition to coordinating volunteer programs and helping seniors stay independent.

Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. Carson City definitely gets in on the game with festivities all over town. Corned beef and cabbage, green beer, and live music abound. Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year; welcome to the year of yang, which could be a goat, a sheep, or a ram, depending on the translation. Time to reunite with family and loved ones and celebrate spring. New York City got in on the festivities with its first ever fireworks display for the Lunar New Year; I've included a YouTube video, just in case fireworks really are lucky.

Monday is upon us and it’s drizzly. You could stay indoors and celebrate National Clean Out Your Computer Day, but there are a few reasons to put your umbrella to work. Most people may consider internet videos to be a quick way to get an easy laugh, but what some may not be aware of is that there's an entire niche of them that are specifically made to amaze and awe the viewer, sadly most of those videos will remain in the low numbers of reproductions regardless of the hard work that's been put onto them, but if after investing days of recording and editing it gets 200,000 people engaged in the plot and entertained by its content, it can certainly be said that an impression not all can achieve, has been made.
