10th Annual Silver State Vertical Drop Ski Competition Fundraiser
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 03/12/2018 - 10:44amThe Silver State Vertical Drop is an annual ski competition and community fundraising event put on by the Silver State Hotshots, a Carson City-based wildfire suppression crew.
Individuals or teams of 3-5 compete to safely ski as much vertical feet as possible in a 4-hour time period—the team with the highest average vertical feet skied wins. There are individual prizes for males and females who finish in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and a team prize for 1st place. In the past, these prizes have been donated to us from companies such as Moment Skis, Patagonia, and Smith Optics.

Justin Cutler, the current captain of the Silver State Hotshots, began the event in 2008 and it has taken place each year, this year being the 9th consecutive.
Registration open for trail event to raise money for injured and families of fallen firefighters

All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Compassion spreads like wildfire. Show off your beard with a wild beard contest with a $10 entry fee. 100% of all raffle tickets, cash donations and beard contest entries will go directly to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Bureau of Land Management - Nevada will also be out with Smokey Bear educating the public about the dangers of forest fires.
