Information Now Available To Nevadans About High Risk Health Insurance Pool Program
Submitted by on Thu, 07/01/2010 - 2:02pmCARSON CITY – The Nevada Division of Insurance is alerting Nevadans to a new federal website for information about the temporary high risk health insurance pool program created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The pool, which is to provide coverage to uninsured individuals with pre-existing conditions, is accepting applications beginning today.

Lawmakers OK Funding For Official Portrait Of Outgoing Gov. Jim Gibbons
Submitted by on Thu, 06/24/2010 - 12:25pmCARSON CITY – A panel of lawmakers today approved a $20,000 appropriation to commission an official portrait of out-going Gov. Jim Gibbons.
The request by the Department of Cultural Affairs for the funding from the Interim Finance Committee’s contingency fund was approved without comment by lawmakers.
The request was submitted after Gibbons lost his re-election bid in the June primary to GOP challenger Brian Sandoval. Gibbons will leave office as the state’s 28th governor in early January. A new governor will be picked by voters in November.

Looks like the Nevada Appeal missed it as well, at least as far as their website is concerned. Hopefully the addition will add some new sales tax revenue to Carson City's coffers.
Secretary of State Reports No Citizen-Sponsored Questions On Ballot For First Time Since 1992

The deadline for submitting the required number of signatures to county clerks passed Tuesday with no petitions presented in any county. Three petitions to amend the state Constitution were in circulation.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe have experienced an active spring, including one bear breaking into a Carson City garage. The bear was taken down.

Department of Transportation Releases Information on Stimulus Projects

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the release says, has provided about $201 million in funding for road construction in Nevada, and 90 percent of the funds have already been contracted out to construction companies.

Carson City railroad history celebrated with arrival of McKeen Motor Car V&T No. 22
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 05/09/2010 - 6:24pmCARSON CITY — It was 'all aboard' the historic McKeen Motor Car V&T No. 22 on Sunday for dozens of railroad enthusiasts as the Nevada State Railroad Museum celebrated a milestone 100th anniversary commemorating the iron horse's arrival to the Carson City railroad.
The celebration was at the platform of the historic Wabuska Depot. Numerous local, state and federal officials and noted railroad historians participated in the event, trading stories and history references, and taking turns riding the car.
The Bernhard family, donors of the car, were the honored guests.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents interested in serving on the Commission, which oversees all Carson City planning and zoning matters, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m., at the Community Center in the Sierra Room.
