Virginia City Ferrari Hill Climb

Grab your cape, mask, and special side-kick and head to Tumbleweeds Gymnastics in Minden for their Superhero 5/10K. Hunt for underwater treasure at Sand Harbor with the High Desert Divers, all divers and snorkelers are invited. The Ferrari Hill Climb continues today in Virginia City if you feel the need for speed. Galaxy Theater brings another movie classic to the big screen today. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ 60th Anniversary Event plays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

SUNDAY:

The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. SATURDAY:

Are you off to the playa? If not, head over to the Carson City Airport for their display of vintage aircraft celebrating the end of WWII. If land-based vehicles are your passion, then the Ferrari Hill Climb along the truck route to Virginia City could be for you. If the Ferraris are too fast, maybe you’d enjoy watching or racing with Carson City BMX at the Livermore Sports Complex off Edmonds Street. For something without wheels, consider the weekly pool tournament at Remedy’s on William Street.

This last weekend of August is filled with ways to celebrate your community. Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.
