Man confesses to making up story about being kidnapped in Reno, forced to drive to Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/12/2013 - 4:07pmCarson City authorities have detained a man who allegedly cooked up a story to police dispatch that he had been kidnapped in Reno and forced to drive to Carson City.
The suspect told Carson City police dispatch Friday at around 3:15 p.m., that a man forced himself into his vehicle around Victorian Square in Reno and that he was forced to drive from Reno to Virginia City and Carson City. He initially told investigators that he dropped the man off near the exit of College Parkway and the Carson City Freeway.

NHP responds to 92 crashes on area roads
Submitted by admin on Thu, 12/27/2012 - 9:18amTroopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to and investigated 92 motor vehicle crashes in northern Nevada between 10:00 am yesterday through 6:00 o’clock this morning. 33 crashes involved some sort of injuries while the remaining 59 were property damage only collisions. Most of the crash activity was in the greater Reno-Sparks area with only a handful of crashes reported in the rural parts of northern Nevada. The largest volume of calls for service took place late last night and early this morning.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/07/2012 - 9:49pmBeing the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.
Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.
Holiday cheer at two-day Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights

The enhanced event is tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ice skating continues until 10 p.m.
Tonight's night's festivities begin on the capitol grounds with the state tree, a bristlecone pine, and downtown Carson City being lit along with a procession including Santa, Mrs. Claus and the 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble.
Carson City Symphony presents 29th Holiday Treat concert

The Symphony will be joined by the newly formed Carson City Symphony Chorus and the Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3 p.m. Conducted by David Bugli, the symphony will perform several works of Christmas and Hanukkah music. Three-hour Nevada Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. along Carson Street route

The three-hour four mile-long parade features hundreds of colorful floats, high-stepping equestrian units, and spirited marching bands from throughout the state. The traditional 10 a.m. flyover of military aircraft from the Fallon Naval Air Station and Nevada Air Guard will kick-off the parade.

This fun ride takes you from the Great Basin Brewing Company in Sparks, through Victorian Square, along the Truckee River, through downtown Reno, and then back again. There are many other great raffle prizes as well, and they always donate the money to a good cause.

A four-day celebration of the Silver State's admission to the Union in 1864 will be celebrated the last weekend in October in Nevada's state capitol of Carson City.

Victorian Fashion Show at Nevada State Museum
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/02/2011 - 2:29am"Oh, My Bonnets and Bustles: A Victorian Fashion Show" will highlight women's fashions from the 1850's through the early 20th century, roughly the same time period that Queen Victoria reigned in Britian hence the "Victorian" era. The show is sponsored by the Carson City Historical Society.
The fashions for the event come from the collection of Tina Davis-Hersey and Carolyn Davis. The collection includes original outfits as well as costumes created by the mother-daughter duo from historic patterns.
