Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 01/06/2020 - 2:45pmThe Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States, will be sponsoring a special event on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 to honor the 2019 Sailors and Marines of the Year assigned to Naval Air Station Fallon and Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, along with the Recruiter of the Year from Naval Recruiting District, Portland, assigned to the Reno Office.

Carson City Mayor, Navy League present commemorative medallion to Gov. Sandoval

Sandoval with a commemorative coin depicting both the recently christened USNS Carson City and the historic USS Carson City, a Tacoma-class frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.

The Speaker is a secret, but will explain the Navy and /or Marine Corps from a current enlisted perspective. What many of older Veteran’s knew as High Tech is antiquated in today’s military. Come and hear what has happened and to celebrate Veterans past and present!

The Dinner and meeting will be held in the Banquet Room at Casino Fandango, 3800 S. Carson St., Carson City. The social hour will be at 5:30 PM and the dinner hour will begin at 6:15 PM. Attendees can access the Casino Buffett from the Banquet Room.
Mayor Bob Crowell, the Council’s first president will speak and hopefully be joined by some of the other original members of the council to help us celebrate the occasion!

This is a change of location. The dinner hour will begin after 6:15 PM. Attendees will be accessing the Casino Buffett from the Banquet Room. Our speaker will be Katherine (Kat) Miller, Col. USA, ret., the Executive Director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. She is a 34 year veteran of the US Army and a Military Correctional Specialist.

This is a change of location!
The social and dinner hour will be from 5:30 PM to 7:00PM. Attendees will be accessing the Casino Buffett from the Banquet Room. The meeting will start promptly at 7:00PM. Our speakers will be Glenna Smith of Senator Heller’s office and Ken Gray from Congressman Amodei’s Office. We will also be installing the new 2014 Officers and Board Members.

The social hour is at 5:30 PM followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 PM.
The Carson City Council is very proud to announce that our speaker for the May Dinner will be Monica Jaye, Co-host of the Reno Morning News on 780 KKOH. She is also the Public Affairs and Promotions director for KKOH. Monica is a staunch supporter of the Military and Veterans in the Northern Nevada area.
