Although we have had nice weather this last week, the higher mountain roads can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention. Just last week I drove up to Caples Lake to do some ice fishing and got caught ahead of a multi-vehicle crash near Kirkwood.

Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7: Things to do around Carson City

Either way, today is the big game between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. Carson City will be hopping with gridiron parties, beverages and hot wings at bars, restaurants, and casinos. Start the day with a pancake breakfast at the Elks Club. For those who aren’t a pigskin fan, consider playing a few rounds of bingo to benefit the Carson Animal Shelter Initiative.

With a temperature around 50, it should be a perfect day to skate one last time. Show some Senator Pride tonight at the Community Center as 24 seniors compete for ‘Mr. Carson High.’ There’s a lot going on this weekend, so take a look at the list and go have some fun.

The Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff for Super Bowl 50 is at 3:25 p.m. and will air on CBS. Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform in this year’s halftime show.

Among the headliners to warm up and sign autographs at the famed Tahoe South course were defending 2014 champion Mark Rypien, retired New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, American Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain and first-timer Justin Timberlake.

Local casinos, bars participate in 'Most Valuable Driver' Super Bowl Sunday Koozie campaign

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with Joining Forces and the Office of Traffic Safety have provided a limited number of water and cola Koozies to be given to those who choose to be designated drivers during the game.
They are designed in the shape of a football jersey and have been stamped with the MVD and Zero Fatalities Logo.

The Brewery Arts Center presents Mig O’Hara as the first installment of their new Nevada Songwriters Series. And local band Iron Age will be filmed at their gig tonight in the 11th Frame Lounge at Carson Lanes for a ‘rock-umentary.’ Where ever you end up tonight, you’re bound to have a good time.

Also present will be plenty of food and for many of you, adult beverages. During events such as these, people have a tendency to over indulge and lose track of just how much alcohol they have consumed.

Graham's Word: Jim Harbaugh some of, but not all of the problem in SF

He wasn’t all the problem, but more so a part of the problematic puzzle the organization has at the moment. The 49ers have a GM in Trent Baalke who is a hard headed, competitive guy, and seems to refuse to work with someone who is the same way (Jim Harbaugh).

Super Bowl betting breaks Nevada sports book record

The sports book recorded an unaudited win of $19,673,960, a hold percentage of 16.5 percent.

Carson City woman charged with murder in November death of 18-month old toddler
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/31/2013 - 4:12pmA 23-year-old Carson City woman faces murder charges following the death of an 18-month-old toddler, Justin Watson, in November 2012.
Brittany Michelle Paugh turned herself into the Carson City Sheriff's Office Thursday. She is being held without bail. Charges include first degree murder, child abuse, child abuse causing death, second degree murder with child neglect and child abuse with substantial harm. The toddler died of significant trauma to the brain.
Sheriff Ken Furlong said the arrest came after an extensive investigation that involved medical specialists outside the state.
Three-time Super Bowl champion Roger Craig to speak at Governor's Dinner

The dinner is set for July 12 at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. Proceeds from the Governor's Dinner benefit student-athlete scholarships at the University of Nevada.
