In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with half of the sister team of Wild Horse Stage Company, part of Wild Horse Productions, and its upcoming production of "Heathers, The Musical: High School Edition" which begins later this month.

Sierra Scott is directing this high school edition of "Heathers" the musical, which runs weekends, March 20-29, at the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater in Carson City. Go here to watch the video interview.

Andy's Ride for Suicide Awareness

ANDY'S RIDE is a suicide awareness ride for our friend and local dentist Andy Getas. Andy began his practice in Carson Valley in 1983, later moving to Carson City. Devoted to his family and his patients, he was an accomplished drummer, loved jazz and cycling. Andy lost his life in 2015.

Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

MINDEN — Due to the recent tragic events in Douglas County, many people may be feeling grief, anxiety, and unsafe. Douglas County is encouraging residents to reach out to support groups in the community to receive help, reassurance and comfort during this difficult time.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program and multiple agencies from around Carson City will hold a Veterans Resource Fair on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Carson Nugget.

Veterans and their caregivers will be provided with information on services and programs provided by area non-profits, advisory groups, government agencies, and the private sector. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Verne Horton, President of the Sierra-Tahoe Branch #137 of the veterans organization - The Fleet Reserve Association(FRA presented a check for $1050.00 to Debbie Posnien, Executive Director and Alisa Merino, Program Coordinator of the Suicide Prevention Network of Douglas County. The check was presented on behalf of the Branch and its Ladies Auxiliary Unit, whose members, together, hosted events raising the funds to aid the Network's efforts in preventing suicide through support, education and advocacy.

Sierra Lutheran teacher competes in 'Gotta Dance' competition

Sierra Lutheran High School educator J.P. Albert wears many hats - Spanish teacher, P.E. teacher, and assistant football coach. But this Spring, J.P. is also lacing up his dancing shoes. From Carson City to Silver City, Fallon, Virginia City, Sparks and Lake Tahoe, Sunday is filled with activities as we round the corner into the three-day weekend. There's a 5K Remembrance Run in Carson City, a rib cook-off in Sparks, a farm-to-fork festival culinary festival and fireworks at South Lake Tahoe, the Cantaloupe Festival in Fallon, the Comstock Community Rummage Sale in Silver City and the Great Civil War Days Camp at Virginia City.
