Gentle Movement Class for Opening the Heart

Deborah Stevenson offers a refreshing, six-week series, featuring simple movements and guided meditations for balance and renewal. This Sheng Zhen Qigong course is suitable for beginners who have an interest in meditation but "can't sit still." Qigong means “energy in motion” and its purpose is to open and purify the heart. Sitting, standing, and lying down meditations will be introduced. This class is perfect for seniors. Non-yogis are welcome; the form is easy to learn.

“Meditation and Reflection Rooms” formally opened on March 16 at University of Nevada, Reno claimed to be one of the “nation's top public research universities”.

These “Meditation and Reflection Rooms” feature two individual rooms and a larger space for reflection, meditation and prayer. It includes various cabinets where each group can keep their required religious icons and articles locked to be brought out when needed by individuals.

Burners join New Year's Memorial Walk and Wave in memory of Highway Waver Ed Carlson

On New Year’s Day, the fourth annual memorial “Walk and Wave” will be held for Ed “The Waver” Carlson, in downtown Reno. Participants will walk and wave to others, as Ed did during his lifetime, through Downtown Reno north along Virginia St. and then east along E. Fourth St.

A lot of people are asking themselves and the society in which we live this question hours after a fatal mass killing at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

I’m a native Oregonian, born and raised just an hour or two north of Roseburg. My parents called this mill city, situated between the North and South branches of the Umpqua River, home for a few years a decade back. I know the area fairly well. One of my favorite places to visit was Wildlife Safari just a few miles down the road in Winston.

Multi-faith prayers ring in New Year in Reno

In an all-emcompassing gesture of global peace and goodwill, a celebration among Northern Nevada religious faithful came together in Reno late Wednesday, New Year's Eve, to celebrate the ringing in of 2015.

Coordinated by religious statesman Rajan Zed, “Multi-faith New Years’ Eve Service” hosted by Reno Buddhist Center included prayers by Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American leaders.

Serenity Meditation Studio in Carson City is a way for me to give back to the community. As a Registered Nurse I see first hand the many problems that our current Physical and Mental Health Care Systems face.

I believe that each of us has a responsibility to be a part of the solution to our Health Care Crisis. Our lives today are so fragmented and full of non stop go, go, go and stress, stress, stress that we have forgotten what it's like to just relax and breath and enjoy the moment.

Nevada State Museum in Carson City hosts Powwow traditions exhibit

Celebrating Nevada's rich American Indian culture is a new exhibit at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City called "What Continues the Dream: Contemporary Arts and Crafts from the Powwow Tradition."
This colorful exhibit, featured now through Aug. 7, was developed by the Folklife Program of the Nevada Arts Council and presents art and crafts that capture the vibrant spirit of the contemporary powwow, Nevada-style.
