The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public’s assistance with locating the stolen property previously reported on October 20, 2020.

With the assistance of the Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, Special Enforcement Team and the Detective Bureau an investigation was conducted which has led to the recovery of the stolen solar panels and some of the equipment.

Unprofitable companies often eventually go out of business. Tesla Motors is very unprofitable.

The electric-car maker scored a big win in 2014 when Gov. Brian Sandoval and Nevada lawmakers passed a $1.3 billion subsidy package to entice Tesla to build in Storey County a huge battery manufacturing facility that’s a key part of its business. The package also forgave sales taxes for 20 years, property and payroll taxes for ten years, and provided discounted electricity rates.

The project called The Vintage At Kings Canyon was presented by the managers in an open meeting at the Fritsch School on April 7th to a crowd estimated at 250-400 people.

On April 25 it was again the topic of another public meeting at the school. This time the meeting was called by the neighbors, and drew over 200 highly interested people, along with the mayor, two candidates for mayor, a supervisor, a candidate for supervisor, a reporter, a retired reporter, and other retired reporter also a candidate for supervisor.

Have you ever wondered why there has been such a big push in the past decade or two toward so-called green energy?

I surmise that the reason has less to do with saving the environment, and more to do with saving the pockets of people who have tied up their fortunes in it.

With the August completion of a 180-kW rooftop array at Western Nevada College in Carson City, nonprofit Black Rock Solar has reached the milestone of building five megawatts of solar power capacity across the state of Nevada. The 83 clean energy projects built by Black Rock Solar since its 2007 founding include arrays for schools, hospitals, food banks, homeless shelters and Native American tribes. These arrays have been built at little or no cost to the recipients, but now provide more than $725,000 of combined savings annually on the organizations’ energy bills.

UPDATE: Carson City Battalion Chief John Arneson says there was one fire only near the fireworks area with firefighters coming from multiple locations to fight it. He said firefighters attacked the fire from three locations, extinguishing it within 20 to 30 minutes after it started.

CARSON CITY — Homeowners who install solar systems to reduce their power bills could one day find themselves paying more for the privilege.

A 40-year-old Reno man was arrested Tuesday by Douglas County authorities following an investigation that lasted several months into stolen solar energy equipment.

Geoffrey Earl Meudt, a former resident of Gardnerville, faces a felony charge of possession of stolen property, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. From November 2013 to April 2014, there were five separate thefts in Douglas County of electrical producing solar panels and associated solar energy system components.

Black Rock Solar began construction in late February on two new Carson City area photovoltaic arrays: 324 ground-mounted panels at Sierra Lutheran High School and 193 rooftop panels at Silver State Charter Schools.

That means 135 kW of clean energy from the sun powering the 91-student Christian school and the 7th to 12th-grade charter school. It also means an annual utility-bill savings of more than $19,000 for the two schools – that’s $19,000 that can go toward expanded educational opportunities within the Carson City and Douglas County communities.

Just in time for Independence Day, Reno-based non-profit Black Rock Solar has reached the milestone of building 3 megawatts of solar power capacity across the state of Nevada. That’s 3 megawatts of clean, renewable energy fostering freedom from fossil fuels and building a self-reliant nation independent of environmentally hazardous power-production methods.

Nevada son and United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid addressed a joint session of the Nevada State Legislature today in Carson City. Here is the text of his speech:

The Carson City Greenhouse will offer tours of its premises on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. At 10:30 a.m., Greenhouse manager Ray Saliga will present a workshop on propagating herbs from cuttings. The Greenhouse is located on the Carson High School campus, 1111 North Saliman Road. To reach it, turn into the high school property from Saliman Road at Robinson Street. The public is invited to attend.

CARSON CITY – It took all of about ten minutes for Sen. Dean Heller and Rep Shelley Berkley to mix it up in their first debate in the U.S. Senate race Thursday, criticizing each other on campaign issues ranging from ethics to Medicare to big oil subsidies.

The hour-long debate on KNPB-TV in Reno was the first chance for many voters to see the two candidates spar on the issues, most of which have already been the focus of campaign attacks in the race to date.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s Office of the Military figured it would be money ahead after entering into a contract with a firm to build solar panels on three of its sites around the state to supply it with electricity.

But today officials with the office won approval from the state Board of Examiners to seek $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to pay excess utility costs. The reason is because the solar energy being provided under the contract is costing the agency more than if it purchased electricity directly from NV Energy.

The Copper Mountain Solar 1 facility in Boulder City that President Obama visited Wednesday is certainly impressive. With nearly 1 million solar panels, the nation’s largest operating solar facility can provide power for about 17,000 homes without producing any harmful emissions or sending any money out of state for dirty coal or foreign oil.

CARSON CITY – A new report questions the value of tax incentives and regulations approved by many states around the country, including Nevada, to create “green jobs,” noting that subsidies used for such programs can take away revenue for other needs such as public education.

The second annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Nov. 14 at Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City.

The evening is limited to 80 guests and features six courses paired with wine, prepared by Adele’s chef and owner, Charlie Abowd and guest chef Mylan Schmidt of Coco Dolce, Carson City.

Course sponsors at $1,000 and co-sponsorships at $500 are sought to offset the cost of meal preparation and other sponsorship opportunities will be available that evening.

NV Energy is presenting a $9.7 million rebate to the Carson City School District, which is taking advantage of Nevada’s abundant sunshine and using it to reduce operating costs with electricity generated by photovoltaic solar panels.

On Sept. 27, the district will receive the rebate through NV Energy’s SolarGenerations program for installing 1,949 kilowatts of solar energy at five schools, including Carson High School, the Fritsch and Seeliger elementary schools and the Eagle Valley and Carson middle schools.
