A Deja vu Airplane Ride over Carson City

An event at the Carson City Airport had my blood running faster than usual Sunday! An old Ford Tri-Motor plane came by to visit. This plane has an interesting history with a personal touch for my family. My son-in-law Glenn Ware, grew up in Kansas where this plane was first based, and he took a ride in it when he was 15 years old. He has pictures of it in his scrapbook.

The 53rd annual Virginia City Camel Races will begin on Sept. 6, and once again the media will enlighten us on how the race was born over a half century ago, with a hoax published in the Territorial Enterprise in 1959 by then editor, Bob Richards.

The story is true. Richards, however, was a hellava lot more than the father of the Virginia City Camel Races. A talented individual with a creative mind, Richards was a driving force for the promotion of tourism on the Comstock for the 14 years he lived here.

Carson City railroad history celebrated with arrival of McKeen Motor Car V&T No. 22

CARSON CITY — It was 'all aboard' the historic McKeen Motor Car V&T No. 22 on Sunday for dozens of railroad enthusiasts as the Nevada State Railroad Museum celebrated a milestone 100th anniversary commemorating the iron horse's arrival to the Carson City railroad.

The celebration was at the platform of the historic Wabuska Depot. Numerous local, state and federal officials and noted railroad historians participated in the event, trading stories and history references, and taking turns riding the car.

The Bernhard family, donors of the car, were the honored guests.
