Carson City is monitoring Covid-19 issues and working very closely with all of our health-related partners. To date, we have only one reported incident which was determined to be travel related but that is not cause to take this virus lightly.

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

For this week's installment of Carson Now's Five Questions, Carson City's very own Mayor Bob Crowell sat down to discuss why he wanted to become Mayor, what he plans to do after, and everything in between.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will be hosting their upcoming meeting on Thursday, October 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

(Reno, Nev.) – College is nearly back in session, with classes at the University of Nevada, Reno starting Monday, August 27. If your student is heading to the University of Nevada, Reno, here are some safety tips and resources. If they are attending a different college, be sure to review policies and student resources at their school. A private contractor working in the Silver Oak area installing main connections on the water pipeline serving the extreme northwest portion of Carson City ruptured the line Monday morning sending one person to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to Carson City Public Works.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Water Resources Specialist John Cobourn has received a national award for his innovative approaches in programs addressing flash floods, environmentally friendly landscaping, Lake Tahoe’s water quality, and other water issues in northern Nevada.

Lyon County has been awarded $11.9 million in grant and loan funds through USDA Rural Development Nevada to build a waste water collection system for nearly 500 users who are currently on septic tanks near Dayton. The project aims to reduce nitrate problems.

CARSON CITY – State Treasurer Kate Marshall announced today that despite the current volatile treasury market, her office has successfully completed the sale of five series of general obligation bonds totaling $161.3 million at an average interest cost of 3.6 percent, one of the lowest interest rates the state has ever received.

A statement released Tuesday by Indian Hills General Improvement District officials reports its system was in violation of safe drinking water standards after twice the level — that which exceeds the maximum level of arsenic — was discovered, according to KRNV Channel 4 Reno.
