New York Playwright, Opera Librettist Comes to Silver City Artist in Residency Program
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 08/22/2019 - 10:02amNew York-based playwright, opera librettist, theatre critic, and arts journalist David Cote is the current visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in historic Silver City, Nev.
While he's here in August and September, he hopes to draft a 70-minute, spoken, dramatic monologue for a male performer about carpentry, family, and faith. You can learn more about his creative process during a free, public talk at the Brick at 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City this Thursday August 22, 2019 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in an event that also includes a talk by Chicago-based sculptor Nicole Beck.

Drop by for appetizers and see the "Translating Silver City" art show at City Hall from 3 to 4:30 p.m., then view Capital City Art Initiative's "New Crop 2019" exhibition and meet the artists over a glass of wine at the nearby reception at the Court House Gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Finish the night with a free concert by Athena McIntyre at McFadden Plaza near The Fox Brewpub from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Sharing the stage with the 17 piece big band this year is Tierney Sutton, 2015 GRAMMY Nominee for “Best Jazz Vocal Album”.

Her artistic roots are influenced by the San Francisco Bay Area Figurative Movement, and her education at the Art Student's League of New York focused first on classical portraiture and later on abstract expressionism. She currently lives and works in the North Tahoe/Truckee area and participates in The Reno Art Salon and Critique Circle.
WNC Main Gallery Showcases Narrative Painting

Showing now through Nov. 7, Penniman’s collection titled “Lines and Fields: Abstract Narrative Paintings” appears in the WNC Main Gallery.

He’ll have copies of his book ‘Lumber Baron of the Comstock Lode: The Life and Times Duane L. Bliss’ for signing after a power point presentation. Enjoy a night at Living the Good Life; they have just started doing a karaoke night every other Tuesday. Feed your inner artist at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company. Art Bar Reno is hosting a painting party there tonight.
