I've been compiling a list of memorable things people have had to say about Mark Twain for 30 years now, and most of them are from Twain scholars, but a few might surprise you, as being from folks you might recognize.

The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.

Featured speakers at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be two Nevada journalists who have written extensively about how Nevada responded to the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919: Bob Conrad in Reno and Bob Stoldal in Las Vegas.

LAKE TAHOE — A new control tool for aquatic invasive plants that clog waterways, reduce water clarity and provide cover for other invasive species at Lake Tahoe continues to show impressive results in its third year of testing. The tool is a light array mounted under a working barge, which trolls through the marina dousing the plants on the lake bottom with ultraviolet-C light.

The Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Nevada is announcing their expansion to the Northern Nevada LGBTQ+ business community. The advocacy nonprofit provides business development opportunities, financial access, educational resources, supplier diversity and procurement opportunities to LGBTQ+ and allied business professionals statewide.

Steve Sisolak’s office said he is disappointed that there’s no legislation to extend unemployment benefits that are fully paid by the federal government, and that the state is analyzing the cost of an executive order President Donald Trump announced this weekend calling for states to pay a portion of a $400-per-week add-on.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national non-profit organization dedicated to feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to pets of the homeless population, is hosting its 11th annual Give a Dog a Bone Week, a national event to collect pet food and supplies for those in need, from Aug. 10-16.

Carson City School Superintendent Richard Stokes will be the guest speaker at this week’s Rotary Club of Carson City’s virtual meeting. The public is invited to attend the online meeting which takes place Tuesday at noon.

The Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival is taking a new direction in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was founded in 2004. This is the first year in which gathering of large crowds at musical events has been restricted due to health concerns.
