The Green Dining District banner will be flying over Carson Street again, which means you can expect to find Green Dining deals at some of your favorite green restaurants.

For one week, customers who check-in to the Green Dining District on social media will receive a free stainless steel straw kit with their order.

CARSON CITY — Local non-profit greenUP! is proud to announce its participation in Plastic Free July, an international awareness month focused on the environmental and health impacts of plastic pollution. greenUP! will be sharing Plastic-Free challenges each Wednesday of the month, and they invite the community to join them.

Beginning Wednesday, the Carson City Green Dining District will feature a special program to help customers support local businesses while reducing their environmental footprint.

In wake of the recent studies conducted by Desert Research Institute and UC Davis finding microplastics in Lake Tahoe, local 501(c)(3), "Clean up the Lake" in partnership with Tahoe Dive Center, have decided to speed up their announcement of their pre-existing plan to do a 72-mile underwater-scuba trash clean up of the entire shoreline of Lake Tahoe in Nevada and California.

A recent documentary on PBS on plastic pollution shocked me with something called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Two Carson City artists, a school student and an adult, placed in the statewide recycled art contest to raise awareness of recycling. First place in the adult division went to Bretta Leach, and third place in the K-5 Division went to Sean T., both of Carson City.

CARSON CITY — In recognition of Earth Day on April 22, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Program is helping to educate Nevada communities about the threats posed by “plastic pollution” throughout the state, and how to lessen the impact of plastic pollution to Nevada’s unique natural environment.
