Many teachers and individuals with the Carson City School District are finding innovative ways to connect with students and families during mandated school closures from the COVID-19 pandemic.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. You’ll find something for everyone this weekend, whether looking for fun with friends, your little ones, or your special someone. Take a look, and have a great weekend Carson City.

Friday, Aug. 12: Things to do in Carson City

I hope you like live music, Carson City, because tonight you’ve got plenty of it. No matter what your style, there is someone for you. Take the kids to the Nevada State State Train Museum for Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive or to the McFadden Plaza for an outdoor concert with Musicole. Leave the kids with a sitter if you’re going to head to Living the Good Life for some outdoor fun with CV-41 or inside the Westside Pour House with reggae group Whiskey Lung. A to Zen has a store-wide scavenger hunt to accompany their weekly open Mic.

Hopefully, with help from my list, you've spent it exploring the food, drink, music, theater, art, museums, and outdoor fun stuff that Carson City has to offer. Let me tell you, there’s plenty of fun to come! Tonight, you can check out Mo’z Motley Blues at the Brewery Arts Center or the Whitehats at Westside Pour House. It’s also opening night for the kids of Youth Theater Carson City: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is at the Community Center at 7 p.m.

Tourism Officials: Nevada visitor campaign 'A World Within, A State Apart' resonates with travelers

Nevada's tourism officials say the 2013 spring and summer advertising campaign that launched the brand "A World Within, A State Apart" along with a television commercial featuring the catchy version of the cowboy song "Don't Fence Me In" by Las Vegas band The Killers has proven to be highly successful.

The Nevada Commission on Tourism’s campaign, which continues this fall, has strengthened interest in travel to Nevada among key audiences with results showing significant year-over-year increases, said Claudia Vecchio, director, Nevada Commission on Tourism.

Free multi-cultural Fall celebration Sunday at Fuji Park in Carson City

The annual Basque Festival at Fuji Park is evolving this year to become a multi-cultural celebration this Sunday, Sept. 15, that includes Basque, Italian, Mexican and Nevada barbecue cuisine.

Dubbed the “Fall Festival,” this family-friendly event offers a “Kid Zone” with 5 bounce houses, arts and crafts tables, a Home Depot build project, various games, kid karaoke, caricatures, face painting and a balloon artist. Adults can enjoy live music and dancing as well as Bingo in the Pavilion with various prize levels available.
