What Works: Take action to stop project overwhelm

I have had a lot of opportunity knock on my door lately. It seems from the moment I open my eyes in the morning, I am going non-stop on everything from my new radio show on KNVC (Business Therapy, Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30 to 8 a.m.) to the needs of a variety of companies. Honestly, it can get a little overwhelming. It’s overwhelming until I realize there a sure-fire cure for overwhelm — take one strategic action.

Carson City student picked as Society for Range Management delegate at upcoming forum

Carson High School Senior Cade Crookshanks, 17, has been selected by the Nevada Section of the Society for Range Management to participate in the High School Youth Forum, a SRM sponsored youth activity held jointly during the 73 Annual SRM meeting. The meeting will be held in Denver, Colo., Feb. 16-20, 2020.

Carson City Historical Society serves as curator of local history, leads effort to move Adele's building

The Carson City Historical Society has recently been thrust into the spotlight because of the proposed demolition of the 155-year old building once occupied by Café at Adele’s and preceding businesses through the years attracting hundreds of customers through those historic doors.

Artisan Cafe in downtown Carson City now under new ownership

The Artisan Cafe, located at 701 S Carson St., in downtown Carson City is now under new ownership to begin the new decade.

According to Kira McElroy, who took over the cafe on Jan. 1 with husband Rubin, the previous owner, Jeanne Day, was ready to take on new adventures, and offered to pass along ownership to the husband-wife team.

Carson City, East Fork Firefighters to participate in 'Stairclimb' fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.

Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.

Douglas County Commission votes support for Gardnerville community plan to keep wild horses wild

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday stating the County's support for the local wild horses and the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, the Gardnerville community organization working to protect local wild horses.

Carson City's Mark Twain Elementary receives Tesla funding for LEGO Team, earns 2nd place

CARSON CITY — Mark Twain Elementary School has been selected to receive funding and support for the next five years to build and maintain a FIRST LEGO League team for students in grades 4-8, ages 9-14. The funding opportunity, totaling more than $6,150 over the course of the next five years, comes as part of the Tesla K-12 Education Investment in Nevada program.

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

New events center, potential casino sale could boost prospects for South Tahoe market

STATELINE — Mont Bleu, a resort that has gone by three names and had five owners in 41 years, is playing a central role in the future of the South Lake Tahoe gaming market.

Eldorado Resorts CEO Thomas Reeg said the Reno-based company will need to sell at least one of the three casinos it will own in Tahoe once a $17.3 billion merger/buyout of Caesars Entertainment is completed early next year.

Deer hunters save 'King of Carson,' Carson City's famous buck, from tussle with clothesline

Matt Parent of Carson City and Shawn Dixon of Reno have been friends since high school and both have been avid hunters their entire lives. So when Parent called Dixon to ask him to come look for a particular deer in Carson City last weekend, Dixon was more than happy to drive down.

However, this was no ordinary deer hunt, but instead, a deer rescue.
