USDA and Housing Partners Celebrate National Ownership Month with 'Power Hour'

USDA Rural Development and its two close housing partners, Nevada Housing Division and the Nevada Rural Housing Authority on Tuesday celebrated National Homeownership Month with a "Power Hour" to brief real estate professionals on the changes in real estate law resulting from the 2015 Nevada State Legislature and to honor their work to leverage homeownership across the state.

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority received a Partnership Innovation Award from the Pacific Southwest Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment officials Monday, May 18.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority hosts free Home Buyer’s Expo

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority is hosting a free Homebuyer’s Expo on Saturday, April 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bonanza Room at the Nugget, 1100 Nugget Ave, Sparks.

The Expo is designed to educate prospective homeowners on the process of purchasing a home and ways to prepare for homeownership down the road. There will be presenters from NRHA, USDA Rural Development, Financial Guidance Center, lenders and more.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority appoints Melody Harkreader to board

Melody Harkreader has been named to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority Board of Commissioners as its rental housing representative. She was jointly appointed earlier this month by the Nevada Association of Counties and Nevada League of Cities.

“What NRHA offers is wonderful. It has blessed and helped so many families,” Harkreader said. “The Home at Last program is fantastic for first-time homebuyers, by giving families the opportunity to have their own home. And I'm very excited about the work they do with the homeless.”

Tammy Lancaster Joins Nevada Rural Housing Authority

CARSON CITY — Tammy Lancaster has been appointed to the position of Director of Finance for the Nevada Rural Housing Authority. Prior to joining NRHA, she served as Corporate Controller for Rite of Passage, an operator of residential treatment facilities, qualifying houses and schools for at-risk youth around the country.

Laura Lau joins Nevada Rural Housing Authority

Laura Lau has joined the Nevada Rural Housing Authority in the position of Management Assistant. In her new role, she will be responsible for providing administrative support of the Home at Last programs in the Northern Nevada office.

Lau has spent the past five years as a licensed real estate agent in the Carson City and Dayton areas. A 25-year resident of the area, she has also spent more than 16 years working for Carson City and Douglas County reviewing residential plans for new construction and remodeling projects.

Paulina Urantowska-Torres promoted at Nevada Rural Housing Authority

Paulina Urantowska-Torres has been promoted to the position of Compliance Specialist for the Nevada Rural Housing Authority’s Home at Last department.

Her primary focus will be processing the Mortgage Credit Certificate files for NRHA and to support the agency’s new partnership with NHD for MCCs in the Reno and Las Vegas areas, according to a news release.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority hosts free April 5 Home Buyer’s Expo

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority will host a free Homebuyer’s Expo on Saturday, April 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Ponderosa Room at John Ascuaga’s Nugget, 1100 Nugget Ave, Sparks.

The Expo is designed to educate prospective homeowners on what goes into buying a house, as well as maintaining the home after purchase. There will be presenters from NRHA, as well as lenders, builders, title companies and non-profit partners.

First-time homebuyers grants available through Nevada Rural Housing Authority

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority has 2013 Workforce Initiative Subsidy for Homeownership funds available to help first-time homebuyers with the necessary down payment to get into a home of their own, but they must be in contract by March 31, 2014.

In Carson City, the income limits are slightly higher and in Lyon and Churchill counties, they are slightly lower. Income limits can be found here.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority wins national award

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Rural Housing Authority team was presented with the 2013 Pioneer in Housing Award (Large Agency) from Nan McKay & Associates at the 2013 NMA Housing Conference, held in San Diego earlier this month.

According to NMA the judges were greatly impressed by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority’s home financing program to expand homeownership opportunities in the rural parts of the state.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Rural Housing Authority staff, along with its Board of Commissioners, are mourning the death of Commission member, Tom Cook. Cook died at Carson Tahoe Hospital, while surrounded by loving family, on April 25, 2013.

Interest rate is now at an all time low for program designed to help you buy a home

A popular, new program offered by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) is making home ownership even more affordable. Through the Home at Last™ Access program, qualified home buyers receive a generous 4 percent down payment grant, which does not have to be paid back.

Now, the program is offering even lower mortgage interest rates on a conventional, 30-year fixed rate loan. Through participating lenders, the interest rates on FHA, VA or USDA-RD home mortgages have dropped from 3.75 percent to the current rate of 3.5 percent, which is an historic low.

Nicole Larrimore named Marketing Coordinator for Nevada Rural Housing Authority

Nicole Larrimore has been named as the new Mortgage and Marketing Coordinator for the Nevada Rural Housing Authority. The position was recently created to provide information about the NRHA’s housing assistance programs to mortgage lenders, banks, realtors, brokers, title and hazard insurance companies and prospective homebuyers. She will serve as the NRHA liaison to lenders and build relationships with the home buying and real estate community to better serve their needs.
