Well, so much for spring. Stay warm today as the wind whips into town. It’s National Library Week, and the Carson City Library isn’t shirking its duties with the Lego Club, Story time, and a sewing class in its Makerspace all happening today. They have also brought in renown speaker, author, and innovator Milton Chen to lead a panel discussion on education inside of the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall.

It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. You can probably scratch ‘hitting the slopes’ off this weekend’s list of options, but you can hit the ‘hill’ instead: Prison Hill, to be exact. You’ll find the start and finish line for Ascent Runs’ ‘Love Can Be Cold’ 5 or 10K at the Prison Hill Southern Trailhead. If you’d rather crawl than run, Virginia City’s ‘Devil Made Me Do It’ Saloon Crawl might be for you. Find something special for your special someone at Artsy Fartsy’s annual Champagne and Jewelry Show or at the Valentine’s Craft Fair inside the Carson Mall.

February is jumping right in. Join CCAI in celebrating the newest Courthouse Gallery exhibit: ‘Writing from Mars’ by Rick Parsons opens today with a reception at 5 p.m. Le Cirque Vagabond brings their rock sideshow revue, Asylum, to the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall for a special performance; no one under 18 will be admitted. Choose from a number of venues hosting bands, karaoke, or DJs for a fun night out. If you’d like to be a performer yourself, consider auditioning for PPI’s newest venture, The Producers.

Sunny days in the fifties are okay for spring, but we still need some winter to come our way. Take advantage of the warmer weather during a Winter Hike along Carson Valley’s Pinion Trail with Muscle Powered. Song and dance kids will want to audition for the upcoming performance of ‘Willy Wonka, Jr.’ If you’re a fan of song, but possibly too old to join the Youth Theater Carson City cast, check out the monthly jam in Silver City at their historic School House. All instruments are welcome, in addition to vocalists and those who just want to listen.

Ready, set, crawl. The Brew Crew’s monthly pub crawl kicks off from the Laxalt Plaza next to the Nugget and includes up several downtown area taverns and restaurants. If your new year’s resolution includes volunteering, the Muscle Powered Trash Mob is a quick, but mighty, helping hand. Learn about the future of the Stewart Indian School Historic Site during an encore lecture at the Nevada State Museum. Flashback to Beatle-mania at the Brewery Arts Center or karaoke at Battleborn Social are just some of your nightlife options.

You’ll be ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ all weekend; Youth Theater Carson City’s final weekend of performances is sure to bring down the house. The Monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery will teach a Tibetan Calligraphy and Butter Sculpture Workshop and hold a Vajravidarin Healing Ritual in the Brewery Arts Center today. Carson’s nightlife features live music, karaoke, Carson Comedy, and west coast swing. Read on for all the details.

FRIDAY, Jan. 19: Things to do in Carson City

Something wintery is on its way: prepare for a blustery afternoon and a rainy evening. But don’t let a little precipitation ruin your plans. The monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery in South India will be visiting until Sunday and have several workshops and rituals in store. The Roska Collective is kicking up our downtown nightlife up a notch with a Tequila and Techno night at Battle Born Social. Sunni Frost and Cedric Williams are back on the Living the Good Life stage. Their vocals will turn an ordinary evening extraordinary.

After back to back three-day weekends, this one may feel a little short. Grab onto the hours allotted and have a good time. The monthly downtown wine walk is a great way to catch up with friends after the bustle of the holiday season. The annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series offers the Winter Round-up 5 or 10K. If staying active is a resolution, then a brisk run in our hills fits the bill. For something less strenuous, you can join our Parks and Recreation Department for a Winter Wonderland Walk along the Carson River.

Friday has finally arrived, and it has brought some nightlife with it. Enjoy the Trippin King Snakes on stage at the Max Casino. The Carson Nugget gives you comedian John Hilder in Carson Comedy and the band Adrenaline playing in ‘The Loft.’ Kids will love the Wild Horse Children’s Theater production of ‘Honk, Jr.’, while ‘Love/Sick,’ performed by the Proscenium Players, is meant for an older audience. Let Roska Entertainment take you into late-night with their weekly dance party in Battle Born Social’s Sage Lounge.

The Carson Comedy Club presents the Best of Sean Peabody with material from his last 15 years of stand up comedy.

Sean will be mixing in old material including greatest hits such as the lawnmower, mom does chores and dad in the garage and new material to make one great set!

Raised in Northern Nevada, Oscar Ovies exploded onto the comedy scene with his national TV debut in 2010 on Showtime's The Green Collar Comedy Show. This lifetime funnyman brings a sarcastic and admittedly nerdy view of the world both onstage and as the co-host of the late night comedy show The Half Hour Happy Hour.

From Halloween to Taco Bell, racism to relationships, no matter what the subject, once you've seen things through the eyes of Oscar Ovies you're not likely to see it the same way again.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

Enjoy these September days, it will be blustery and cold before we know it. Celebrate our neighbor to the east during their annual Dayton Valley Days street festival. We should have a break from the rain by then, but it’ll still be a windy day. Stick around downtown for a special tour of our historic Capitol with Muscle Powered. The storm won’t stop the fun to be found in the valley tonight. Read on to see all your nightlife options, including a free concert at the Sierra at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church and two performances by comedian Kevin Farley at the Nugget.

Community Chest, Inc. is proud to present multi-Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell to the Piper’s stage! The 8th Annual “A Night to Imagine” benefit show will be held on April 14, doors open at 7:30 inside the historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City.

It may be April’s Fools Day, but the fun going on around town is no joke. Get your blood pumping with the Carson Canyon Half Marathon (or Half/Half Marathon if you want something shorter.) It’s Wine Walk weekend, and with the sunny day you have no reason to stay home. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers want to ‘Give Our Regards to Broadway’ during their one weekend only production. There’s too much to mention in this short opening paragraph, so keep reading for all the great things our valley and sister valleys have to offer.

It’s a great day for the kids with the Kerak Shrine Circus in Reno, cookie decorating at Genoa Candy and Coffee, and a Father-Daughter Dance at Dayton High School. Show some love to Carson High Senior Amber Reeves: she’s displaying her photography at the Brewery Arts Center for her Senior Project. Carson City Arts Gallery introduces their monthly Artist Reception tonight by welcoming Kathleen Osborne Flanagan. The nightlife tonight features music, karaoke, dancing, comedy and more.
