The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "ART from WNC," at the Community Development Building (the Brick) 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Eleven student artists from Western Nevada College, Carson City, have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now through April 12, 2018; the building is open Monday - Friday, 8am – noon, 1-4pm.

"ART from WNC" includes a wide variety of art including graphic design, drawing, photography, and watercolor painting that show the diversity of the students’ creativity.

CCAI 15th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser

In a one man show, Chris Bayer will portray both Major William Ormsby and Lucky Bill Thorington in “The Major and the Gambler” at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 9, at 6:30 pm.

Major William Mathew Ormsby was born in 1814 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Ormsby was a teamster, failed horse dealer, citizen at large, visionary and one of the most important figures in the founding of Nevada and its capitol, Carson City. He was killed in 1860 during the Pyramid Lake Paiute uprising.

Steve Hale will portray the legendary mailman of the Sierra, Jon A. “Snowshoe Thompson, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:30 pm.

When Jon Thompson put on his 8-foot skis and heavy leather mail pack in 1856, he skied to Genoa and into history. His two to three day 90-mile crossings (one way) carrying the mail and valuable packages of up to 100 pounds on his back through the snow have never been physically duplicated, not even with modern equipment. This extraordinary feat has become part of the legacy and spirit of the pioneer American West.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announced Thursday the winner of the 2017 poster and program cover art contest is William Smith, a member of the Nevada Artists Association.

Words into Music Concert: Carson City Symphony to feature guest soloist Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, presents “Words into Music” on Sunday, April 23, at 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

The concert features violinist Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio performing Earnest Chausson’s Poème for Violin and Orchestra and Hector Berlioz' Reverie and Caprice. Rita Geil will read poetry related to these pieces.

Anita Watson will portray Mary Pickford, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, September 7, at 6:30 pm.

Mary Pickford was America’s Sweetheart. Pickford was an actress on the stage and in film, a writer, a producer, a director, and co-founder of a movie studio. She socialized with Hollywood’s most famous stars and married a swashbuckling film hero, Douglas Fairbanks. In 1955, Mary Pickford published her autobiography, Sunshine and Shadows. In this presentation, Pickford will discuss her book and her life.

Carson City, Nevada — To help launch the annual citywide Jazz & Beyond Festival, Capital City Arts Initiative will host artists selling their art at the Bliss Mansion prior to the 6:30 p.m. main concert.
