June 20, 2022 - 1:00pm Monday, June 20th marks the second annual celebration of Juneteenth National Independence Day, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden on June 17, 2021. It commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement by Union Army General Gordon Granger of General Order No. 3, which proclaimed freedom for all the enslaved people of Texas, the last Confederate state to have institutional slavery.
