Contrary to popular belief, not all new residents relocating to Carson City come from that huge state just west of us. Some travel as far as 2,888 miles to create new beginnings in a community they only passed through on their way to a Yosemite.

The concerts in the Capital Amphitheater have always been a local favorite: blanket and a picnic are all you need to make the most of this Sunday afternoon. SUNDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. There is something for everyone this weekend, so keep reading and find your fun.

It will be a weekend of classics at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Aug. 19-20 with a mix of music, railroad and automotive history.

Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.

There are more than 500 cars up for auction, everything from classic antiques to 70s muscle cars. Out of that 500, 150 cars come from the collection of Carson City businessman Garth Richards.

The event kicked off yesterday, and they celebrated with a fireworks display last night.

Whoo, boy, if adventure thrillers are your meat, dine at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City where "Fast Five," fifth in the series of "Fast and Furious" is whooping it up. Director Justin Lin has a ball with car chases, crashes, explosions and good crooks vs. bad crooks in Rio de Janeiro.

The movie "Drive Angry," currently playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, is practically one long car-chase movie, starring Nicholas Cage and Amber Heart.

To fully enjoy this film you have to believe totally that there is an actual physical Heaven and Hell, not that the two are metaphors of consciousness. But don't fret about it; religious ideas don't count here.
