Wintery Sundays are almost asking for hot chocolate and ice skating. Head down to Carson Lanes for their Bowling ‘Golf’ Tournament and see how well you can maneuver 18 lanes with varying oil patterns. Classic movie lovers are in for a treat as Galaxy Theater offers two viewings of the 1952 favorite, ‘Singing in the Rain.’ Grab some friends or your special someone for ‘Bostyx’ featuring David Victor formerly of Boston. You’ll find this great concert in the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center.

The estate of Bob McFadden, featuring art and collectibles curated over McFadden’s lifetime, is being offered for sale by the McFadden family at an art and collectibles sale Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale is open to both the public and professional art dealers, and will be held at the McFadden home, the historic Krebs Peterson mansion, at 500 Mountain Street in Carson City.

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club is partnering again with The Carson City Senior Center by adopting 20 home-bound seniors and making their Christmas wishes come true.
The local community helps us with our cause by donating items for our annual (17 years) Christmas Commitment.
This year our event will be held on Sunday November 27 from 12:30pm - 4:30pm, at the Eleventh Frame Lounge @ Carson Lanes, 4600 Snyder Ave in Carson City.

What Works: The Wild Fantasy World of Assumptions

Yesterday, I checked into an AirBnb in downtown El Paso. My lovely friends in San Diego had put me up the night before. We watched a movie called Sicario, a flick about Mexican drug cartels. Needless to say, the movie is partially set in Juarez, the border town right next to El Paso. It was the perfect set up to a nice waterfall of assumption.

Nevada Writers Hall of Fame: Gailmarie Pahmeier, Willy Vlautin and Tod Goldberg to be honored

The 29th annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame event honors Nevada’s finest authors and recognizes emerging writers for their work. This year, the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame will welcome Gailmarie Pahmeier, Reno’s first poet laureate, and Willy Vlautin, song writer and author of four highly-recognized novels. Tod Goldberg, author of the comedic crime novel “Gangsterland,” is the 2016 Silver Pen Recipient.
