Graham's Word: MLB Needs To Start Being Serious

Enough is enough…..

Major League Baseball needs to set an example this time when it comes to Alex Rodriguez and the other players that are involved in this whole entire Biogenesis situation. It should be a lifetime ban for Rodriguez. I don’t think it will come to that unfortunately but that is what the punishment should be. With all that Alex has done to deceive baseball, the players, and the fans he should never be allowed to be in the game again.

University of Nevada Hires Jay Johnson as Next Baseball Head Coach

RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada Director of Athletics Doug Knuth announced today that Jay Johnson has been named the head baseball coach at Nevada. Johnson spent the last eight seasons as associate head coach at the University of San Diego. He will begin his duties at Nevada on July 1.

“Through the interview process I was impressed with Jay’s commitment to academics and building relationships within the community,” Knuth said. “I felt he is the coach that will have the Wolf Pack competing at the highest level possible.”

College Baseball: WNC’s Conor Harber drafted in 38th round by Baltimore Orioles

More than 1,100 selections went by in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft before the Baltimore Orioles chose Western Nevada College freshman outfielder Conor Harber on Saturday.

It marked the ninth straight year that the Wildcats have had at least one player taken in the 40-round draft. The 2009 draft was the only other time that the Wildcats didn’t have multiple current or past players selected.

Harber, who could play another season at WNC, start a pro career in the minors or sign with a four-year school, was taken by the Orioles with the 1,149th pick in the 38th round.

Jason Collins, first openly gay NBA player garners former NFL coach, Raider kicker support

A day after NBA basketball player Jason Collins came out as gay to Sports Illustrated, a former NFL coach and an Oakland Raider record-setting placekicker believe the NFL is ready to accept a gay football player.

"I don't think the NFL is going to have a problem," said Herm Edwards, former Kansas City Chiefs head coach, now an NFL analyst for ESPN. "Is there going to be a vote of confidence in the locker room? For some of the younger and immature players, but the veteran players — they get it."

Graham Blog: MLB Playoffs On the Right Track but Needs Fixing

Event Date:
October 24, 2012 (All day)

Major League Baseball revealed a new playoff format this year by adding an additional team to the wild card mix. It has some potential in my mind after being extremely skeptical about it.

Before this year, only one team won a wild card spot in both the American and National Leagues and they went straight into the Division Series. This year the playoff format allowed one additional team in each league to play for the wild card spot in the division series.

It will never go away. Until the MLB really DOES something about it. A little venting here on the case of steroids/PED's in baseball.

I know this would never pass with the Player's Association in a CBA agreement but if you want to completely get rid of steroids/PED's, the MLB and the MLBPA need to have a 'one and done' approach about it starting in the minor leagues.

'One and Done' Approach Needed for MLB

A little venting here on the case of steroids/PED's in baseball. I know this would never pass with the Player's Association in a CBA agreement but if you want to completely get rid of steroids/PED's, the MLB and the MLBPA need to have a 'one and done' approach about it. You eventually send an overwhelmingly strong message to players and players-to-be that it truly is a zero tolerance policy. If there was a 'one and done' rule.....no LAW, the players would get the message. If you expect me to believe players 'didn't know?' Give me a break.

WNC pitcher selected in fifth round MLB draft

Western Nevada College pitcher Dylan Baker made history for his Wildcats team Tuesday while his own dream of becoming a professional baseball player came true. The Cleveland Indians selected Baker in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft, making him the highest-ever selection out of WNC.

The unbeaten hurler from Juneau, Alaska, was the 173rd pick of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Baseball Stadium Safety Needs Refining

Last night, a Rangers fan fell 20 feet onto concrete on his head after reaching out over the railing to catch a baseball tossed by Josh Hamilton. The fan was bloody but appeared to be stable as he was talking with fans and paramedics to make sure that his 6 year old son was going to be taken care of. Everyone assured him that his son would be okay. The fan passed away later that evening in the hospital.
