Construction of Mountain Lakes Estates Retirement Community is nearly complete, and its first residents are expected to move in this fall, said Darryl Fisher, president of Mission Senior Living. The active lifestyle community for adults 55-years-old and better is located at 765 South Meadows Parkway, Reno. Construction began in the spring of 2019.

In their nearly 70-year marriage, Georgia and Lew Foster had never spent a single anniversary apart, and they weren’t about to break that tradition because of COVID-19.

Celebrating their 70th-wedding anniversary would require some planning and creativity on the part of Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care, where Lew lives, but this sort of planning is in this team’s wheelhouse.

Despite the challenges assisted living and memory care communities are facing during the novel coronavirus pandemic, the training and certification of team members continue to be a priority not only for communities like Mission Senior Living but also for the state of Nevada, which requires ongoing certification for medical technicians.

During the annual Perry Foundation Endeavor Awards dinner on Aug. 20 at The Grove at South Creek, Carson City-based Mission Senior Living team members were presented four Endeavor Awards for outstanding care and achievement in post-acute and long-term care in Nevada. MSL offers assisted living and memory care services at locations in Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona.

Carson City-based Mission Senior Living celebrated the groundbreaking of Mountain Lakes Estates Retirement Community, located off of South Meadows Parkway, just past Sprouts, in Reno. Upon completion in the spring of 2020, the 121,000 square-feet, four-story building will offer 130 apartment homes for active adults 55 and better.

Carson Valley Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to the Wounded Warrior Project. The amount totaled $3,750.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001.

Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care, a Mission Senior Living community, is expanding its memory care neighborhood with a 3,200 square-foot addition that includes accommodations for eight additional residents. The $900,000 construction project began on Feb. 28 and is expected to take about six months to complete.

As part of its mission to give back to the community it serves, Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to a local veterans’ organization. The community’s team members and residents selected the Northern Nevada Veterans Resource Center (NNVRC) and presented a $3,750 check to Justin Chavez, Regional Site Director and Cristina Crawford, Program Support Manager on Feb. 15.

The Nevada Caregivers Coalition honored Daig for her outstanding care by selecting her as “Caregiver of the Year” at the 2018 Caregiver Recognition Luncheon last month at the Atlantis Hotel Casino in Reno.

Fernley Estates Senior Living’s 2nd Annual Holiday Bazaar is the perfect place to start your holiday shopping and bring the kids for a photo with Santa Claus. Carson City-based Mission Senior Living broke ground on Mesa Valley Estates Assisted Living and Memory Care, an $8 million, 78-unit senior living community that will serve seniors and families in the Mesquite and Moapa Valleys, Arizona Strip and southern Utah areas.

They are physically and mentally ready to conquer this year’s race.”

At the start of the 14th Annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure on Friday in Wingfield Park, Jonah Vandever will join runners scheduled for the 7:30 a.m. start time. Only the 20-year-old double amputee won’t be running, he’ll be hand-cycling.

What started as another day at the ballpark turned into a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Reno resident Marvin Dockter, the recipient of an Ageless Dream from Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care in Reno, where he lives.

Mission Senior Living has announced the addition of Jennifer Awinda as director of resident enrichment, a position created to oversee life enrichment programs and services at the organization’s six assisted living and memory care communities. She reports to Sarah Green, Mission Senior Living’s vice president of operations.

During the 12th annual Caregiver Recognition Luncheon on Nov. 29 at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, ten Mission Senior Living (MSL) team members were among 93 caregivers recognized by the Nevada Caregivers Coalition for enhancing the quality of life for those in their care.
