Nugget Project: The Parking String
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Fri, 02/18/2011 - 1:56pmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uLECuGK07U
Several people at yesterday's Board of Supervisors meeting mentioned the generosity of Mae Adams for donating land to Carson City for the proposed Knowledge and Discovery Center and public plaza, the centerpiece of the City Center/Nugget Project.
I've heard some critics complain about this donation, which does little to bolster their case. Despite the unorthodox lease deal, it really is a donation we should be thankful to have the option of using for a new library.
But this donation does come with one very large and expensive string attached.
Supervisors to consider Carson City Center Project next week
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/10/2011 - 10:06pmCarson City leaders will learn next week whether the proposed Carson City Center, also known as the Nugget Project, is financially viable and may vote on whether to move forward with development agreements.
Thursday's meeting of the Board of Supervisors is a culmination of many months of studies, public meetings, workshops and a citizen's advisory committee. Supervisors will hear the results and recommendations of the project at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.
Nugget Project: Business incubator losing steam?
Submitted by admin on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 7:04amOne of the things that came out at Monday night's Nugget Project advisory was a setback for the business incubator part of the project.
It was announced by project consultant Mark Lewis that C4Cube, the business incubator in Reno that was considering operating the planned Carson City incubator, was no longer a part of their discussions. We don't know exactly what happened, but not having an experienced operator could threaten this part of the project.
Carson City Center/Nugget Project: Digesting the details
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Wed, 09/29/2010 - 7:45amMonday's Advisory Committee Meeting included a lot of new details about the Nugget Project that we are still looking through.
For those who haven't seen the presentation by P3 Development, you can read it here.
I think they made the best pitch for this project so far, and showed that this somewhat scaled-down version is at least close to being feasible, given the revenue constraints requested by members of the Board of Supervisors.

Nugget Project tidbits
Submitted by admin on Mon, 08/30/2010 - 9:17amThere is an interesting discussion going on over at the Nevada Appeal site concerning the Nugget Project.
The story begins two week ago when Guy Farmer wrote a rather harsh column that slammed the Nugget Project. In response, last week there was a guest column by Michael Douglass criticizing Farmer's take on the subject.
Nugget Project: A look at the lease numbers
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Mon, 05/17/2010 - 9:01amWhile the Carson City Board of Supervisors are on track to ante up $75,000 this week to move the Nugget Project to the next phase, I'm finding that the more I dig into the details, the more the numbers don't seem to add up.
Specifically, I'm looking into part of the project that calls for getting three state agencies to lease space in this proposed 177,000 square foot development in downtown Carson City. I use the word "proposed" in a very loose sense here, since it's likely to change once P3 Development begins the real process of feasibility planning for this project. In fact, as I am writing this, there's a new story out from Northern Nevada Business Weekly quoting the developer that the office portion would be 175,000 square feet, with an additional 50,000 square feet of retail space, to go along with the 60,000 square feet for the library/business incubator/digital media lab portion of the project.
Nugget Project: Meet the developer (updated)
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Mon, 05/10/2010 - 8:43amThe developer chosen for the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Project will be on hand tonight to answer questions about the project.
Rick Oshinski, CEO of Sacramento-based P3 Development, will appear before the Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee tonight in the Community Center's Sierra Room.
Carson Now plans to show live video of the meeting, as well as hosting a discussion forum.
Many questions are sure to arise, concerning the details on the project and its scope, as well as the developer and how the company was chosen.
As I've been talking to people about this project, I've collected a number of questions, that I put together below.

Editorial: Nugget Project: No new answers. Only more questions.

An article in the Nevada Appeal this morning attempts to get new information from the Nugget Project’s “go to guy,” Steve Neighbors. Neighbors, who is now the owner of the Nugget, is quoted as saying that the project still lacks a developer to shoulder the “private industry” half of the project. That’s about all that’s new from Neighbors, that they STILL don’t have a private partner.
Nugget project: Questions, misconceptions cause emotions to outpace reason

Comment on Editorial: Why spend $50 million on the “last library?” by Dave Morgan
Submitted by on Wed, 02/03/2010 - 11:00amRon: Valid points. Valid points. I’m more concerned about making a $50 million investment in a library while not knowing “where” information management is headed.
