Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Celebrate Nevada’s most cherished time of the year in the safety of your own vehicle at Western Nevada College on Oct. 30 and 31. For many there will be a major void in their social calendars to fill on Nevada Day without the annual parade to attend.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with Carson City Toyota, Western Nevada College, and the Carson City Classic Cinema Club to present the inaugural “Made in Nevada” Film Festival, double feature drive-in movies on Oct. 30 and 31, 2020 at the Western Nevada College campus.

Among the events and activities today include continued voting to bring the Levitt AMP concert back to Carson City this summer, a Silver and Blue Nevada rivalry blood drive, a volunteer meeting for Toys for Tots; a showing of "Casino Boss" that was filmed this summer at the Carson Nugget starring SNL Alum Jose Piscopo, a visit by Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift in Dayton, art showings and more.

Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift are coming to Dayton, Nev. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 when the Historical Society of Dayton Valley and historian Laura Tennant presents a Power Point program with the photos of the filming of “The Misfits” on the streets of Dayton and the Stagecoach Flats in the summer of 1960.

CARSON CITY — Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Nevada agencies and organizations have worked hard to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the Silver State, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

Tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a talk by author and long-time film reviewer, Robin Holabird. Her illustrated talk, Elvis, Marilyn, and the Space Aliens: Nevada Screen Icons, is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Community Development building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

This Fat Tuesday is full of things to do. Head to the Fox Brewpub for their ‘Taco ‘bout it’ Fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence: a portion of taco sales today will benefit the organization. Learn about Nevada silver screen icons like Marilyn Monroe, aliens, and the King of Rock and Roll during a CCAI Nevada Neighbors presentation by long-time film reviewer, Robin Holabird. Sierra Nevada Forums brings experts from various backgrounds to shed light on difficult and complex topics facing our society.

Under the direction of Richard Doede, the Capital City Community Band will perform its free annual holiday and patriotic concert with a “Salute to Bob Hope,” on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3:00 p.m., inside the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street.

Under the direction of Richard Doede, the Capital City Community Band will open its thirty-ninth concert season with a Free “Tribute to Nevada’s Birthday”, Saturday, Oct. 29 following the parade from 2-3 p.m. at the Amphitheater in the Legislative Mall, Carson City.

It’s National Say Something Nice Day which can be a little difficult on a Monday, but the sun is shining, June has begun, and the Legislature is on its final day: I’m sure you can find something. Head out to the Minden-Tahoe Airport and check out the WWII-era planes on display as part of the Wings of Freedom tour. Or enjoy some time with your shoes off in one of Carson City’s many parks: it’s also National Go Barefoot Day.

The Gold Hill Hotel features two Nevada historical presentations this month, one involving the controversial Cal-Neva Lake Tahoe gaming license associated with Frank Sinatra and the other focusing on Nevada's place in film history.

The Tuesday Night Lecture Series on the Sinatra's gaming license will be held April 15 with the film presentation on April 29. Programs begins with dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. with the lecture at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for dinner and lecture and $5 for the lecture.

Jan Mackenzie of Reno was the winner of the Marilyn Monroe Look-a-like contest on Saturday during Dayton Valley Days. The annual street fair's theme this year is the 50th anniversary of the making of the "Misfits" starring Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, which was filmed in and around Dayton.

Dayton Valley Days Committee is welcoming entries to both the general parade on Saturday, September 18, and to the Pet Parade on Sunday, September 19, 2010. This year’s parade will feature retired Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha and well-known Dayton Valley rancher Kay Winters as Grand Marshals. To register for either parade, see www.daytonvalleydays.org
