Carson City Library hosts 'Think Bionics Camp' for middle school aged students

Are you interested in bionics and STEM? Excited about robotics? Are you a Carson City student? Then join us for Think Bionics Camp! In this multi-day camp, you'll learn how a fish swims, how an elephant uses its trunk, and how a chameleon uses its tongue to grab items. Registration is required. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Join us once a month to relax through art! Every month we will explore a different technique to use art to help de-stress. For the month of November, create a beautiful glass vase from a recycled glass bottle. The glass bottle will be provided by the library. Pick up your take home kit at the info desk. Supplies are limited; registration is required. Zoom invitations will be sent to registrants on the morning of the event.

Our eyes are wonderful, but only glimpse a small bit of the spectrum of electromagnetic energy produced by stars. To learn more about the universe beyond Earth’s atmosphere, scientists use instruments that can see beyond visible light. We will explore how this is done through telescopes and provide some simple tools that let you acquire some superhuman powers as well!
Carson City Library to celebrate eclipse with activities, telescope, 200 pairs of safety glasses
Submitted by editor on Thu, 08/17/2017 - 2:41pmUPDATE SUNDAY, AUG. 20: For Monday's eclipse program, the Carson City Library is taking walk ins, however they will not be guaranteed eclipse safety glasses. The library will have other activities available and a telescope with a solar filter.
On Sunday afternoon, the Carson City Library is giving out a VERY limited amount at 1pm, line up is at 12:30pm. Must have their library card and only one per person. See the Carson City Library Facebook page here.

The Federal Depository Library Program managed by the Government Printing Office, distributes United States Government Publications to over a thousand libraries throughout the United States so that the American people will have free access to government information.
Carson City Library summer enrichment programs bridge opportunity gap for local youth
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/16/2013 - 2:03amBetween June 7 and August 4 the Carson City Library engaged a record breaking 2,750 youth, ages 6 – 17, in signups for the 2013 summer reading program and attendance in summer learning activities. In that time, more than 21,788 items circulated from the library’s youth collection, primarily traditional books but also e-readers like Kindles, iPads, PlayAways and PlayAway Views.
