Today (Friday) beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, there will be a candle light vigil — United By Light — at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to honor the law officers who died.

Thunderstorms rattle Carson City; weather may move law enforcement ceremony inside

With the Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony happening at noon today, there are contingency plans to move the ceremony inside the State Legislative Building if the heavy rain and thunderstorms persist, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The 2016 run, which began April 27, 2016 in Las Vegas, is in memory of Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty on Aug. 15, 2015 while responding to a domestic violence call. Howell will be honored at noon, Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the 19th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony at the state capitol grounds in Carson City.

Each leg of the run is completed in the memory of each officer listed on the state law enforcement memorial in Carson City. The final leg is dedicated in memory of Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty August 15, 2015.
Howell will be honored at the 19th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony Thursday, noon in Carson City.

The service will honor Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, among the 128 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.

Straight ahead, across the large open area, is the the Nevada Supreme Court Building. A fine statue of Carson City founder Abe Curry is on a tall pedestal in the center.
On the right side of the photo is the Nevada Legislative Building,and a large statue of Kit Carson. The finely detailed statue with Kit Carson riding on his horse was created by famed Carson City Artist Buckeye Blake.

Carson City Sheriff's Office flag dedication has deep roots
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/24/2013 - 7:07pmThe Carson City Sheriff’s Honor Guard and Chaplain dedicated a new flag pole at the administrative complex on Wednesday. The ceremony kicked off a second presentation where three deputies were awarded the “Life Saving Medal” for assertive medical actions resulting in the saving of a life. Deputy Matt Putzer, John Hitch, and Chris Ramos all received medals for their service. The ceremony was concluded as Deputy Bill Richards was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
