Painting in the Sierra Workshop & Retreat
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 02/27/2023 - 4:07pmPiper Johnson and Susan Watson are partnering up to host a three day/three night art retreat at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City. Painters are welcome to choose oil painting in plein air, acrylic abstracts in the studio, or try both!
St. Mary’s Art Center has been home to art retreats and art classes since 1964. Located in the beautiful, historic 1876 former hospital, this Comtock gem is the perfect location to relax, learn, create, and connect.
All levels of painting experience are welcome; some painting experience recommended.
Shifting Paradigms: A Capital City Arts Initiative Nevada Neighbors talk set for Wednesday

Their illustrated talk, "Shifting Paradigms" is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union, 302 N Carson St, Carson City.
Local Artists Stevenson and Foster Display The Power of Light

Offering a fresh perspective and dazzling light, this exhibit showcases popular scenes such as Death Valley, Emerald Bay, and Pyramid Lake. The public is invited to attend a free reception with refreshments from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14 at the NAA Gallery, 449 W. King Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Tuesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and during wine walk.
"Painting on the Outside"

Her illustrated talk, "Painting on the Outside", is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. There will be an informal reception for Shafer preceding the event at 6pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.
New series debuts at OXS Gallery with Hackett-Morgan work- Reception Aug. 15
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 08/02/2013 - 10:25amLas Vegas artist Suzanne Hackett-Morgan’s paintings and prints are on display at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City beginning August 5. The Arts Council will host an artist talk at 6:15 p.m. and a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.
“A Western Dependence” features two series of paintings and prints created over the last 14 years by Hackett-Morgan who is drawn to neglected billboards, closed roadside attractions, and other evidence of abandonment in the desert west,” said Susan Boskoff, executive director of the Arts Council.
