Historic steam train rides this weekend in Carson City at Nevada Railroad Museum
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/11/2013 - 4:08pmThe Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will offer a special run of the famous V&T Steam Locomotive No. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13.
Normally operated only on summer holiday weekends and for Santa Train, the historic and picturesque locomotive will pull the train, giving visitors a rare opportunity to ride the rails and photograph the equipment in fall splendor.

Fishing is picking up with the cooler temperatures and hoppers are on the hillsides above Angel.
However, anglers are still reporting a few slow days here.

Virginia City honors Nevada workers past and present at annual Labor Day parade

There were 21 labor unions represented along C Street Monday, with about 300 local workers and their families participating as well as notable, numerous union retirees.

Gov. Sandoval signs executive order to provide opportunities for disabled workers
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 08/31/2013 - 11:42amNevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued an executive order this week that directs all state agencies to make a concerted effort to include persons with disabilities in the preliminary and final group of candidates considered for employment.
The executive order is intended to allow people with disabilities greater opportunity to enter the workplace and to lead the way for businesses and other organizations to do the same, according to a news release from the governor's office.
Dense smoke advisory through the weekend

Dense smoke advisories continue for much of the Carson City region and into the Sierra. Heavier smoke could return Sunday and Monday, however, due to a more southerly flow of air, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

NHP, local law enforcement to step up patrol over Labor Day weekend

This Labor Day weekend, law enforcement will be out in full force in Northern Nevada, patrolling the roads for impaired drivers. With the state’s Zero Fatalities goal in mind, drivers should plan ahead and designate a sober driver if their weekend plans involve alcohol.

July 6 is one of two Free Fishing Days in California
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/06/2013 - 9:02amCalifornia has two Free Fishing Days in 2013 which are close to holidays. The first Free Fishing Day in 2013 is today, July 06 (associated with the Fourth of July) and the second is on September 07 (associated with Labor Day).
So, on Saturday, July 6, you will be able to fish wherever you like in California, without the need for a fishing license.
However, you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.
Lake Tahoe summer shuttle service to Sand Harbor begins June 15
Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/11/2013 - 4:35pmThe East Shore Express, a park and ride bus that runs from Incline Village to Sand Harbor, opens for a second season for Lake Tahoe visitors and locals.
Buses will operate Saturdays and Sundays beginning the weekends of June 15-16 and June 22-23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Daily operations begin Saturday, June 29 through Sept. 2 with service from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and run every 20 minutes on weekends. Hours of operation on the Fourth of July are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Burning Man pre-registration tickets go on sale today
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 02/06/2013 - 5:41amPre-registration begins at noon today for 40,000 Burning Man tickets at $380 per ticket. The pre-registration period ends noon Sunday, Feb. 10. Burning Man officials are doing tiered first-come-first serve sales of the 2013 tickets.
According to the official Burning Man website, organizers say they've come up with a ticket sales plan to avoid scalping and to meet the needs of the "greatest number of people possible," given there is a limited supply available.
The Annual Don Q Awards for many different reasons

Those reasons include such assorted things as: Outstanding, memorable, good, not so good, questionable, bad, serious, funny, dumb, head-scratching, are-you-kidding, etc.
Those annual awards are presented to all kinds of people or places or things for what has occurred throughout the year. It’s a fun way to end the year for yours truly, so without further ado, here are my 2012 winners:
Workshop for proposed South Shore Lake Tahoe Highway 50 realignment project set; public comment sought

The Lake Tahoe workshop will provide background on the project, outline goals and solicit input from individuals throughout the community. The open house format allows for members of the community to participant in the workshop anytime between workshop hours.
Lake Tahoe Asian clam control project taking place at Emerald Bay
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 1:04pmA team of partners from the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program is scheduled to begin implementation of the largest Asian clam control project in the history of Lake Tahoe on October 15, with plans to treat an area of up to 5 acres at the mouth of Emerald Bay.
